A 10-day capacity building training programme organized for over 1,000 pre-basic and basic teachers in Kwara State will begin in Ilorin, the state capital, on July 28, 2025.
Chairman, Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB), Professor Shehu Raheem Adaramaja noted that this will help to improve the capacity of ‘our teachers at the basic education level’ while adding that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq believes that ‘with the foundational training of our teachers’, it will ultimately translate to improved foundational learning outcomes, help to increase access to basic education, and also ‘enhance education system in our state’.
‘The training programme which will hold between Monday, July 28, 2025, and Wednesday, August 6, 2025, is being organized in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC)’ he added.

Professor Adaramaja also noted that the training programme organized by the Kwara State Government under Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s leadership, will focus on two separate topics: Foundational Literacy and Spring and Stride, with the broad objective of equipping the selected teachers with the necessary skills to drive educational excellence.
‘We are committed to investing in the professional development of our teachers, as we believe that quality education is the backbone of our state’s progress.

The statement added that the Foundational Literacy training programme is designed for 1,000 Primary 1 and 2 teachers and 250 Early Childhood Care Education (ECCDE) teachers, while the Spring and Stride segment will have 75 teachers who have been selected across the state as participants.
‘The foundational literacy is aimed at ensuring and sustaining yearly increase in the average literacy skills of early grade pupils in government schools while the Spring and Stride training will focus on promoting productivity in software development, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
The training programme will take place at different locations in Ilorin West, Ilorin East, Asa, Moro, Ifelodun, Kaiama, Baruten, Patigi, and Offa, Oyun, Isin, Ekiti local governments, between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm daily.
For Foundational Literacy training, teachers from Ilorin West and East local governments will receive lectures at Bishop Smith School between 28th and 30th July, 2025, while those from Asa, Moro and Ifelodun local governments will have their classes at the LGEA school, Idofian.
Kaiama, Baruten, Patigi local governments will have their turn between 31st July and 2nd August 2025, while Offa, Oyun, Isin, and Ekiti will be engaged from 4th to 6th August 2025. Training starts at 9 a.m and ends at 5 p.m daily’ the statement said.
