10,789 Unilorin Students Have Already Gotten NELFUND Student Loan- Vice-Chancellor

A total number of 10,789 students at the University of Ilorin have benefited from the Federal Government’s Student Loan scheme, NELFUND while more are expected to get the loan in the coming days, the Vice -Chancellor of the University, Professor Wahab Egbewole, has submitted.

Professor Egbewole, who said this on Monday during the press conference he presided over at the university’s auditorium, also restated commitment to his vision 1.10.500 noting that his administration has eyes on the ball while saying ‘we will continue to push, the vision is in progress’.

The Vice -Chancellor also commented on the infighting among members of the Unilorin Alumni Association while condemning recent actions of Dr Wale Fasakin and noting that the alumni association is supposed to support the University and not discreet or smear it.

He also noted that while the University can run and exist without an alumni association, the alumni association cannot remain in existence without the University.

He also justified the decision to affirm Prof. Abdulrazaq Olubusuyi Kilani as legitimate National President noting that Fasakin ,who had become an Exco member in 2020, ought to have left in 2024 adding that the emergence of a new set of leaders for the association came into being at a Congress attended by stakeholders including representative from 34 State chapters

Responding to a reporter’s question on rumoured plans to disestablish TETFUND citing the contents of the tax reform bills, Professor Egbewole submitted that as a lawyer, he doesn’t react to rumours cognizant that all that have been said still remain in the realm of rumors and insinuations.

‘I am a lawyer, I don’t speculate, I deal with facts and figures, Iam not aware that disestablishment is on the table .

As a lawyer, a reform is about reforming what we are doing and seeking to improve on what we are doing, the bills are before the National Assembly and the political class are also dealing with it’ he said.

The Vice –Chancellor, who was joined by the principal officers of the institution and the Chairman of the Anniversary Committee, Prof. Olugbenga Mokuolu, had earlier unveiled a billboard to herald the upcoming golden jubilee celebration of the institution.
