12 Terror Suspects Arrested In Kwara

Twelve people, who have been accused of having links with Mahmuda, a terrorist group, have been arrested and taken into custody by the Nigerian Army in Kwara State.

 Members of Mahmuda had reportedly taken over the Kanji Lake National Park, and had recently surfaced in Kaiama and Baruten local governments in Kwara State .

Recall that the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede  had a few days ago, asked soldiers to end banditry in Baruten and Kaiama local governments in Kwara State and Borgu , Kainji forest in Niger State within one month.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2nd Mechanized Division, Major General Obinna Onubogu disclosed the arrest of the terror suspects on Saturday during a visit to Kaiama to have firsthand information about how the soldiers are faring as well as get updates on the military operations.

 According to the GOC, the twelve suspects  were picked up by the military at various locations during the raids carried out on Kanji Lake National Park and the border communities.

Two of those arrested were said to be confirmed members of the armed bandit group while others are accomplices in the criminal act.

‘The counter insurgency operation codenamed ‘Park strike four’ is meant to among other things flush out the bandits and clear the Kanji lake national park of all criminal tendencies’ he added.

The GOC  told journalists that soldiers deployed for the military operations are not resting on their oars and are doing the needful to restore sanity at the park and end safety fears there.

‘Through the raids carried out on the different locations, the troops have successfully combed a distance of at least 90kilometres from Kemanji into the Kanji forest where its firm base is currently situated’ he said.

During his trip, the GOC, who said the mission is already being accomplished, added that the soldiers have succeeded in dislodging the bandits and other criminal elements.

After interacting with the troops, Gen Onubogu also visited the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Sheu Omar and the Head of Kemanji Community, Shao’ki, Aliyu Siki-Muhammed during which he raised the hope of the locals, boosted their morale and restored their confidence-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
