2023 Adamawa Guber: Hudu Ari Arrested In Abuja, Undergoes Custodial Interrogation
Hudu Yunusa Ari, who was last month suspended as Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in charge of Adamawa state, has been arrested and taken into custody by the police.
The embattled INEC official, a barrister- at- law, who had gotten a great deal of public attention since April 16 2023, had his whereabouts suddenly becoming unknown having gone into hiding.
Until he got in the soup, Ari was the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Adamawa state.
Hudu Yunusa Ari had declared the APC gubernatorial candidate, Senator Aisha Dahiru, aka Binani winner of the 2023 Adamawa state Governorship election under controversial circumstances on April 16 2023 .
He had announced Aishatu Ahmed Binani as winner of the election at about 9.30 am less than two hours before the scheduled resumption of collation.
His action was however declared null and void while INEC had later concluded the collation of results, declared Governor Fintiri winner of the Adamawa state 2023 Governorship Election and presented him the certificate of return (CoR).
Apart from getting suspended as REC, the Inspector General of Police, Baba Usman Alkali was also directed to ensure his arrest and prosecution.
Force PRO, Mr. Olumuyiwa Adejobi , a Chief Superintendent of Police, in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Tuesday confirmed that Ari has already been arrested while also making his picture during custodial interrogation available.
‘The Nigeria Police Force hereby confirms the arrest of Barr. Hudu Yunusa-Ari, the Adamawa state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), who was alleged to have announced the candidate of the All Progressives Congress as winner of the Adamawa state 2023 gubernatorial election sequel to the recently concluded supplementary election following calls for his arrest and investigation by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the basis of alleged impropriety in the course of the supplementary gubernatorial polls in question.
Barrister Ari, who was arrested by the Police Election Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Team in Abuja on Tuesday 2nd May, 2023, is currently in Police custody and is being grilled to ascertain the motives and motivations behind his alleged improper actions during the supplementary governoship election in Adamawa state.
In addition, other officials and individuals culpable in the saga are being interrogated by the team.
The Inspector-General of Police has given a clear assurance that every individual involved/indicted in the matter will be apprehended and investigated in line with the provisions of the law for possible prosecution.
The Inspector-General of Police has assured of the commitment of the Force to ensuring that justice is served in this case and that all guilty parties are brought to justice’ the statement said.
Ari had earlier in the day in an interview with BBC Hausa Service asserted that he has no regrets about his decision to announce the election results while collation was yet to be completed adding that he was empowered to announce election results.-Team@orientactualmags.com
