Ahead of the 2023 General Election, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq had in May this year shown his commitment to achieving a second term in office by getting the Kwara state gubernatorial nomination-he was actually elected unopposed.
Signs however abound that the State of Harmony will soon become a centre of high-wire politics considering the array of ‘political enemies’ waiting in an ambush for the governor next year.
It may not be a smooth sailing with regard to the governor’s re-election bid cognizant of recent developments in the state political circle.
The intraparty conflict in the state APC had been to the advantage of the opposition parties following the decision of bigwigs to call it quit.
Sequel to the growing number of people in the opposition parties, political pundits were quick to leap to conclusions that the governor’s re-election bid ‘is seriously being threatened’ and that he has ‘a formidable team to contend with next year’.
Such fears were however easily dismissed on the grounds that ‘a combined action’ against the governor will be impossible and unrealizable and that there will be ‘vote splitting’ which will be advantageous to Abdulrazaq.
The development recorded in Abuja on Thursday however showed possible readiness of the leading opposition guber candidates to consider a combined action and cooperate to achieve the aim of stopping Abdulrazaq from getting re-elected next year.
PDP gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Shuaib Yaman , NNPP guber candidate, Professor Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem and the SDP guber candidate, Alhaji Hakeem Lawal were among the dignitaries that attended the opening ceremony of the TAC House located in the Wuye District, Abuja on Thursday.
They were there to honour Alhaji Tajudeen Abdulkadir Audu, who is the Makama of Lafiagi.
Sources say ‘coalition’ is in the air, it was learned that after exchanging pleasantries at the event , the guber candidates reportedly left for an undisclosed venue where they held a meeting.
‘Who are the people in the opposition? Are they not failed and expired ones? We are very much on ground and our achievements are there to speak for us , we still enjoy people’s support and Abdulrazaq will win re-election’ one of the governor’s supporters told Team@orientactualmags.com on Thursday night.
Another source however punctured his submission and described the Abdulrazaq administration as one that lacks the support of the people and had since become politically emaciated.
‘Look here, my brother, evidence is there for all to see that the governor has become very unpopular , nobody can deceive anyone again, decision will be taken on the Election Day ‘ he submitted- Team@orientactualmags.com
