2023 Kano Guber Election : Gov Abba Yusuf Left With ‘Last Chance’ As Appeal Court Upholds Tribunal Ruling That Annulled His Victory

Governor Abba Yusuf  of Kano state is now left with the ‘last chance’  and  his fate currently hangs in the balance.

The Court of Appeal , Abuja , on Friday  upheld the decision of the Kano state Election Petition Tribunal that annulled  the governor’s victory in the gubernatorial election held in the state on March 18, 2023..

Recall that the electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ,  had through the Returning Officer, Prof. Ahmad Doko Ibrahim ,  declared Governor Abba Yusuf, who was the   Kano state NNPP  governorship candidate ,  winner of the  2023 gubernatorial election.

 Yusuf  got 1,019,602 votes while his main rival, the APC candidate , Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna had  890,705 votes.

However, the Kano state  Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in the ruling delivered virtually by Justice Oluyemi Akintan Osadabey  on September 20, 2023. declared Alhaji Nasiru Gawuna winner of the election after cancelling some votes recorded by the NNPP candidate.

The three-member panel  had also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate of return earlier issued and presented to Governor Yusuf and issue a fresh one in favour of Gawuna.

Governor Yusuf  has lost at the ‘semi-final’ stage and he is now left with the ‘last chance’ cognizant that the appeal court is the stage preceding the final- the Supreme Court-Team@orientactualmags.com
