Ahead of the 2023 General Election, Kwara state PDP on Tuesday announced the constitution of its campaign councils in Ilorin, the state capital.
The state PDP Chairman, Alhaji Babatunde Mohammed , who announced this during the press conference he presided over at the state secretariat of the party in Ilorin , which was attended by journalists including Team@orientactualmags.com, also stated the commitment of the party to ensuring an issue-based campaign.
Mohammed, a former Speaker of the Kwara state House of Assembly, while responding to a reporter’s question, promised that the party will run a violence-free campaign and ‘keep calm’ even if provoked.
Calling the PDP members and supporters in the state peace-loving people , he added that the Kwara state PDP has a strong shock absorber and will not lose its cool even under provocation.
‘Our party is one family and we are peace-loving people that is why there was no litigation after the primary elections. We will make our campaign violence -free and it is our hope and belief that other political parties will be committed to maintaining peace and tranquility that the state is known for like we have done’ he said.
Mohammed also noted that following the go-ahead given by the nation’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, electioneering had since begun and the state PDP has come up with campaign committees that will handle things for the party ahead of the 2023 General Election.
He added that the Campaign Team for the governorship , house of assembly and national assembly elections will be all- encompassing and it will include members in all the 193 wards in the state.
‘ There is an ongoing consultation with the stakeholders to ensure that everyone is carried along’ he added.
The state Publicity Secretary, Prince Tunji Morounfoye also added that the current situation in the state ‘is in semblance with what usually obtains ahead of a football match when the team that is confident that it would win will ensure that nothing goes wrong and will even pacify the opponent to ensure that the match is held’.
The Presidential Campaign Council that will coordinate campaign activities for the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in Kwara state, is headed by former Commissioner for Information, Dr Mahmud Babatunde Ajeigbe , Alhaji Saka Babatunde was named as Deputy Director General, Kwara Central , Hon Akanni Abdulrahman, Deputy Director General, Kwara South while former Commissioner for Local government and Chieftaincy Affairs ,Hajia Aisha Patigi will serve as Deputy Director General, Kwara North.
The Campaign Council tasked with organizing things for the senate ,House of Representatives, gubernatorial and House of Assembly candidates in the state is headed by Hon Ahmad Ali, a one-time Speaker of the Kwara state House of Assembly.
The Deputy Director Generals are Otunba Anu Ibiwoye, Kwara South, former rep Amuda Kannike, Kwara Central and Alhaji Musa Idris Woru, Kwara North- Team@orientactualmags.com
