Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state has said his supporters and loyalists may not vote for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the upcoming presidential election if former senator Iyorchia Ayu refuses to resign from his position as PDP National Chairman.
Makinde is the only South West PDP governor while Atiku is the PDP presidential candidate. Osun state Governor-elect, former senator Ademola Adeleke is also a member of the PDP.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned Makinde said this while making an appearance as a guest on Fresh FM’s political programme called ‘Southwest Political Circuit’ in Ibadan at the weekend.
It will be recalled that Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state and some PDP governors including Governor Seyi Makinde and Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state had for about five months now insisted that Ayu must quit and allow the emergence of a new face as National Chairman of the party.
The governor said he would only work for PDP candidates that are indigenes of Oyo state in the next year’s General Election if the status quo remains.
When reminded that the presidential election and the National Assembly elections will hold on the same day, Makinde said voters are more politically conscious than before adding that they would vote for candidates of their choice where necessary.
Makinde said he would deliver Omituntun 2.0 if re-elected as governor of Oyo state in 2023 which would focus on delivering sustainable development to the people of the state.
‘When I was campaigning for election in 2018, I came up with a roadmap and promised the people that it was meant for accelerated development of Oyo State. Now, based on what we have experienced, we have another roadmap, but this time around, it is for sustainable development 2023-2027’ he said.
In another development, Makinde’s deputy, Mr Bayo Lawal, who represented him at the meeting Asiwaju Bola Tinubu held with Afenifere leaders in Akure, Ondo state on Sunday, had declared that the Oyo state governor would be supporting the APC presidential candidate in the presidential election scheduled to hold next year.
Tinubu, a one-time governor of Lagos state, is the APC presidential candidate.
‘Since he (Makinde) became governor, he doesn’t joke with Yoruba matters. There is no time that our father would call him that he would fail to respond.
Whenever there is an event, either organized by Afenifere or any other Yoruba group, Gov Makinde will always be supportive. Though we are not of the same political affiliation, but we are all from Yoruba land, whatever it is you are doing, he (Makinde) is in support’ he submitted- Team@orientactualmags.com
