2023 Presidential Election: Wike Calls Peter Obi ‘Social Media Candidate’, Says Tinubu Knows The Game

FCT Minister, Mr. Nyesom Wike, did a postmortem of the 2023 presidential election on Friday and gave reasons why he did not support Mr Peter Obi’s candidacy.

Obi was the Labour Party presidential candidate in the election in question.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Wike, who  said this during a  press conference in Abuja on Friday, added that he did not believe Obi had a realistic chance of winning the presidential election and he has called him a ‘social media candidate’.

‘No, he has no chance to win election, I don’t go to where you see people like this kind of social media candidates. I don’t do social media candidate.

 I say, I see as a politician, and I analyze the candidate who is likely to win’ he said.

The FCT minister added that winning elections in Nigeria involves more than just being the most qualified or  the most popular on social media platforms.

‘In politics, it’s not always the right that oh, this is the best candidate. No, no, no. You see, in Nigeria today, in politics, so many factors come in’ he said.

The former Rivers State governor also submitted that President Bola Tinubu knows the game while praising him for staying the course.

 ‘It was very very turbulent for Tinubu to get to that election.

It is one party administration. You could see people didn’t want to say the truth before that election.

 No party in government would at that time bring some policies when you know that you’re facing an upcoming election, but everything was done, and he survived it.

 So, that’s how you know that there are people, first of all, God is on their side. Two, they also know this game. You must give it to them’ he said.

 Commenting on the declaration of state of emergency in Rivers State and the suspension of Governor Fubara from office, he said what he had actually wanted was an impeachment and not a suspension.

‘As a politician, I was not happy with the declaration of Emergency Rule in Rivers State. I wanted the outright removal of the governor. But for the interest of the state, the president did the right thing to prevent anarchy in the state.

The matter is in court but people must say the truth. The governor was gone. It is not on my place to make it good for the governor. As a politician, my business is not to make him comfortable and that is why there is power plane’ he said.

Recall that the president had on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, declared all elected political office holders at the state level in Rivers State suspended for six months.

By extension, all members of the State Executive Council were also sent packing.

This was sequel to the declaration of state of emergency in the state.
