Ahead of the 2023 General Election, a pro-Tinubu group, ‘DIYO 4 Good Governance’ , has been launched in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital. DIYO stands for Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe.
Senator Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe , who represents Kwara Central in the senate, is the sponsor of the new supporters’ group.
He submitted on Saturday that being convinced that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who is the APC presidential candidate, stands as the best and most qualified among those seeking to become President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor next year, was the reason for coming up with the idea of DIYO.
The senator averred that Tinubu possesses the qualities of a great leader and the requisite features for carrying out president’s roles and responsibilities which he listed to include experience, knowledge, courage, competence , capacity , good character and comportment.
Oloriegbe said this on Saturday during the launch of DIYO 4 Good Governance and an empowerment programme that had 625 among his constituents as beneficiaries.
The programme was held at the open field of the Lower Niger River Basin Development Authority, Ilorin.
While noting that DIYO 4 Good Governance was designed to create a platform for his supporters in the 52 Wards in the Kwara Central senatorial district to work for the Tinubu presidential project , he added that it had become a moral duty to support the former Lagos state governor.
This , he noted, will allow him and other Kwarans to show appreciation to Tinubu and give him necessary supports having supported him as ACN Kwara Central senate candidate in 2011 and being a pillar of support for the ‘otoge movement’ in 2019.
Oloriegbe, who said himself and his supporters are still in the APC, also noted that having ventured into politics in 1996 and having contested elections and won on three occasions , he has a good number of people who look up to him and he must therefore create a platform for them to campaign for the APC presidential candidate hence the fusion of groups that had his supporters as members and emergence of DIYO 4 Good Governance .
Commenting on the current situation in the Kwara Central ahead of the 2023 senate election, Oloriegbe cautioned against emphasis on ‘monetary benefits’ by the electors in the senatorial district noting that this was one of the factors that had given birth to ‘otoge movement’ adding that ‘eligibility is different from suitability’.
Asking young people in the senatorial district to demand good governance, the Kwara Central senate candidates should also according to him do away with what he called ‘rhetoric’ and rather come up with a ‘smart plan’ that will be sustainable and realistic. Oloriegbe noted that he had since sponsored ten bills and had such passed in less than four years while he had also succeeded in facilitating the establishment of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital in Budo Egba, Kwara Central.
Items worth 450 million naira were distributed to the senator’s constituents during the event and it had 625 people as beneficiaries.
All the beneficiaries also got N3,000 each as transport fare.
Some among the women involved in cassava production and processing, who were beneficiaries of an empowerment programme held in 2020 and had already had their business enhanced, displayed their packaged garri at the event. They were also given cash assistance as a form of encouragement.
Oloriegbe, who congratulated all the beneficiaries , noted that apart from the necessary supports received from relevant agencies being a constituency project, he also personally added the sum of fifty million naira to purchase the items distributed at the event.
The senator said he will continue to touch the lives of his constituents positively through all available means until his tenure ends in June next year.
Items distributed at the event include sewing machines, laptops, grinding machines, deep freezers, makeup artist kits, food parcels, dryers and tools used by tillers, bricklayers, mechanics and vulcanizers .
Six constituents got cars including a Toyota muscle while many others got tricycles and motorcycles.
One of the women involved in cassava production and processing, who were empowered in 2020, Rukayat Hamzah, told Team@orientactualmags.com that the N20, 000 she got two years ago , and the tools had helped to enhance her business greatly while thanking the senator for the continued support.
Muhammad Aisha Sulaiman , who got a laptop, said she has a degree in Guidance and Counseling and owns a business center.
The laptop, she noted, will ease things for her.
Alhaja Ramat Olowo, who got a car, told Team@orientactualmags.com that it came to her as a surprise because she was not aware that she will be getting such a special gift while Abdulrahman Yusuf from Iponrin Ward , who got a tricycle, said it was surprising that the senator had continued to touch people’s lives positively despite not seeking an elective office next year.
Some other people would have according to Abdulrahman simply kept whatever he has for himself and his family- Team@orientactualmags.com
