2023 Talba Ramadan Lecture: Nigerian Politicians Urged To Place National Interest Above Other Considerations
Nigerian politicians have been urged to downplay political differences, prioritize national interest and get this placed above other considerations in order that the country can easily achieve its development goals.
An Ilorin-based Islamic cleric, Sheikh Umar-Farouq Babatunde said this while giving his lecture during the 2023 Annual Ramadan Lecture organized by the Talba Media Team which was held in Adewole, Ilorin on Friday.
Members of Talba Group are supporters of former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Shuaib Oba Abdulraheem, who was the governorship candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), in the gubernatorial election held in Kwara state on March 18 2023.
Sheikh Umar-Farouq Babatunde noted that those who stood as candidates in the 2023 general election may though have some reservations after the voters had spoken through their votes, they are however expected to move on with their lives.
‘I commend the mature attitude of Prof. Shuaibu AbdulRaheem for accepting the kind gesture shown by the re-elected Governor, Mallam AbdulRazaq who visited him along with other APC candidates that have earned victory immediately after the just concluded general election.
The governor also displayed an act of patience, tolerance and love by visiting an opposition candidate immediately after the governorship election without considering any of the campaign insults and issues.
Many people were surprised at the show of maturity and brotherliness displayed by the candidates of two different parties’ he said.
The cleric also restated the need for politicians to make the progress of the country a priority adding that political leaders should remain united and express happiness to one another irrespective of party affiliation and also show good sportsmanship.
‘The only way to succeed is through love and patience, as no one can truly pay back an act of patience and love, except Almighty Allah.
Whatever good thing we do in this life is for ourselves, but all fasting Muslims will be rewarded by Almighty Allah , peace makers will also be rewarded ’ he added.
