2024 Ibadan Explosion: Fayose Insists Oyo Govt Received N50b From FG, Says He’s Ready For Legal Battle

Former governor of Ekiti State, Chief Ayo Peter Fayose has released a document as supporting evidence for the assertions he made during an interview with the TVC on Friday while noting that he is ready to see Governor Seyi Makinde in court if he chooses to initiate a legal action.

Chief Fayose had accused Governor Seyi Makinde of receiving N50 billion on behalf of Oyo State government after an explosion incident occurred in Ibadan, the state capital, which was allegedly not used for the intended purpose.

Recall that on the evening of January 16 , 2024, an explosion incident recorded in Ibadan had claimed five lives, left 77 people injured and had properties worth billions of naira destroyed.

Illegal miners who allegedly kept Water Gel Type Based Explosive in a duplex on Number 8b, Reverend Aderinola close, Old Bodija, Ibadan, had reportedly caused the explosion.

Chief Fayose had alleged that sequel to the incident in question, Oyo State government under Governor Seyi Makinde got a sum of N50 billion from the Federal Government as intervention while only N4.5 billion was allegedly released to victims of the incident.

‘Ibadan Gomina General got N50bn from Tinubu’s govt, only to release N4.5bn to victims of Ibadan explosion of January 2024’ Fayose’s media aide, who is currently serving as Barrister Nyesom Wike’s aide, Mr Lere Olayinka, also submitted in a Facebook post.

Reacting to the allegations through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Sulaimon Olarenwaju, Governor Makinde had described the claims as baseless and unfounded while throwing down a challenge and asking Fayose to provide evidence.

‘There is no substance to the claim. If he (Fayose) has a proof that the Federal Government gave N50 billion, he should provide it. It is not just about going on air to say rubbish.

If he has evidence, he should come forward with it. I don’t think we should waste time on these guys’ he said.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Chief Ayo Fayose on Sunday issued a statement to insist that his assertions are correct while also providing supporting evidence.

‘Yesterday, the governor responded by asking me to provide evidence that he received such money, and here is the evidence he asked for’ he said.

Fayose also alleged that Makinde is using the fund in question for his presidential ambition and also promoting intraparty conflict in PDP and attacking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his government.

Submitting that it is ‘not in his character to go public with official government documents’ he added that he had to do this in the interest of transparency.

‘I had to do this so that Nigerians will know who is saying the truth, and who has not been sincere with the people of Oyo State.

If as a governor, you have elected to go on national television to disclose part of what transpired in private meetings you had with the president, it becomes the duty of well-meaning Nigerians to give full disclosure.

Lastly, I challenge Governor Seyi Makinde to sue me on this. Let me also tell him that there are proofs of other intervention funds received from Tinubu administration by the Oyo State Government, which the governor refused to disclose to the people’ he said.

That was not all, Chief Fayose also claimed that he has ‘documentary evidence’ to show fraudulent activities in respect of the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of Oyo State but noted however that ‘we will keep our gunpowder dry for now’.

‘My name is still Ayo Fayose, I don’t say what I can’t prove’ he added-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us? Do you want us to cover your event or programme? Kindly send SMS to 08035023079, 08059100286, 09094171980. Thank you
