250,000 Bride Price Dispute Leaves Man Injured In Delta

A young man,  Uchenna Nmakwe ,has been brutalized and injured during a fight over the N250,000 paid to their family as bride price by a son in-law.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the incident was recorded in Akwukwu-Igbo, Oshimili North Local Government, Delta state.

 A police constabulary, Anthony and another family member, have been accused of attacking Uchenna Nmakwe, who is their cousin, during a family meeting and went away with the N250,000 bride price brought to them by the said in-law.

‘Our in-law said they don’t want a ceremony for the marriage which was held on May 7, 2023. The N250,000 they brought was paid into our elder’s brother  bank account, so we could not share it that day’ Uchenna said.

A human rights activist, Mr. Victor Ojei,  had since petitioned the state Commissioner of Police over the incident, accusing Anthony and others of attempted murder and abuse of office.

Ojei urged the police to get them arrested and prosecuted.

The petition noted that the incident was not an isolated case as a previous marriage ceremony in the family  also  had  Anthony assaulting  Uchenna .

Anthony however said  Uchenna  got injured  during a fight over the N250,000  bride price because he was rude to his elder brother.

‘Bamboo was used to hit him for insulting his elder brother at the meeting’ he said.
