3 Get Life Sentences For Kidnapping Man In Kwara…Seriki Fulani Among Convicts

The Kwara state High Court, Ilorin  on Thursday  awarded life sentences to three people including Serikin Fulani of Kwara state, Usman A Adamu, and Gidado Idris.

 Team@orientactualmags.com learned that they were convicted of conspiracy to kidnap and kidnapping.

The convicts were accused of kidnapping Abubakar Ahmad and collecting a ransom of N1 million before releasing him after spending 20 days in captivity.

Kwara state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Idowu Ayoola led the prosecution team.

 Delivering her ruling, Justice Adenike Akinpelu submitted that Usman A Adamu and two others  were all in agreement to commit the offence, adding that whether they were physically present at the scene of the incident or not is immaterial. 

She added that the convicts ‘supposedly arrested their victim claiming that he was a kidnap suspect and they had done this to extort money from him’.

‘I am not persuaded by the submissions of counsel for the defendants to dismiss the charges against them based on the fact that they were not at the scene of the incident.

 It is saddening and disturbing that community leaders tasked with ensuring the welfare of their subjects could because of the love of money breach the security of the same subjects.

They are hereby found guilty as charged and are so convicted’ Mrs Akinpelu added.

‘By Section 15 of the Lead state Anti -Kidnapping Law, the court cannot exercise any discretion of leniency, so you are hereby sentence to life imprisonment. The sentence is to run concurrently’ the judge submitted  after  the defendants’ plea of allocutus .

She also ordered that a sum of N600,000 should be paid to  Abubakar Ahmad as compensation-Team@orientactualmags.com
