30 people who are lecturers at the Sa’adu Zungur University, SAZU, Bauchi State, have recently left the university and they had done this in anger.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the Zonal Coordinator of ASUU, Bauchi Zone, Namo Timothy, disclosed this during the press conference he presided over at institution’s campus in Yuli on Friday.
Timothy noted that SAZU which belongs to the state government, is about to go into extinction due to poor handling of affairs of the university and the well-being of the staff, he has therefore emphasized the need for Bauchi State government to take urgent steps to correct the situation.
‘Until and unless this is done, the ASUU branch zone can no longer guarantee industrial harmony between members of the ASUU SAZU branch and the university administration.
The zone has engaged with key stakeholders and exchanged several correspondences in an attempt to resolve these issues to no avail’ he said.
While lamenting that no pension or death benefit scheme exists for the ASUU members at SAZU as obtained in a structured public service regulation across the country, lecturers at SAZU have also according to him not been paid Earned Academic Allowance and Excess Workload Allowance since 2012 .
Timothy also disclosed reasons why some lecturers at the university had resigned in anger.
He said someone who has a Higher National Diploma was appointed as the university’s Bursar contrary to the provision of service at the university which had recommended that only candidates with a minimum of first degree should be considered for such an appointment.
‘This has not only dampened the morale of our members at SAZU but also forced many, including 30 PhD holders to resign and migrate to other institutions where their future is secured’ he added-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
