The political debacle in Adamawa state which began on March 18, 2023, has ended in election victory for Governor Ahmadu Fintiri .
Fintiri, who became the governor of Adamawa state in 2019, has won a second term after 31 days of political battle.
Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the gubernatorial election held on March 18, 2023, and the subsequent supplementary governorship election held during the weekend.
The election process had featured a series of dramatic scenes and it had also left one top INEC official and a top police officer with tainted records and they will go on a detox which may take years to get done.
Adamawa state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Hudu Yunusa Ari had declared the APC gubernatorial candidate , Senator Aisha Dahiru, aka Binani winner of the election under controversial circumstances on Sunday.
Hudu Ari had announced Aishatu Ahmed Binani as winner of the election at about 9.30 am on Sunday less than two hours before the scheduled resumption of collation.
His action had since been declared null and void and he has been suspended.
The state Commissioner of Police , Mr Mohammed Barde has also been redeployed apparently because of his role in the drama enacted by Huru.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Mohammed Mele , had since declared Governor Fintiri winner of the supplementary gubernatorial election.
Fintiri had 430,869 votes while Aisha Ahmed Binani got 398,788 votes.
Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state has felicitated Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, describing his re-election as ‘a historic triumph of democracy’.
Governor Adeleke in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by his spokesman, Mr Olawale Rasheed expressed gladness that ‘Adamawa state was rescued from the path of anarchy orchestrated by anti-democratic forces’.
‘I felicitate my brother, Governor Fintiri. The will of the people has triumphed. Democracy has won and the choice of the people, Governor Fintiri is re-elected.
I commend the vigilance of Adamawa people, their resolve to stand by their choice. I repeat again my commendation of the good conduct of the Electoral Commission. The commission’s prompt action rescued the state from open conflict. We must also commend the judiciary for refusing to play along with enemies of democracy’ Governor Adeleke submitted.
