$6b Contract Dispute Case: Media Report Untrue, Buhari Not Forced To Testify-Presidency
Former President Muhammadu Buhari was not forced to testify in the $6 billion Mambila power contract dispute case in Paris ditto other prominent Nigerians, the presidency submitted on Saturday while adding that all eminent persons testifying in support of the country ‘are doing so willingly’.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga said this in a statement he issued on Saturday, titled ‘President Tinubu Did Not Drag Any Eminent Nigerian to Paris’.
The presidency had done this in reaction to a media report alleging that former President Buhari had been summoned to testify in an arbitration proceeding that has to do with the $6bn Mambilla power contract dispute.
The media report had claimed that Buhari ‘was in court on Saturday for breaching the terms of a power generation and distribution contract awarded to Sunrise Power and Transmission Company of Nigeria by former President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2003’ adding that he was ‘grilled for hours on Saturday and would continue his testimony on Sunday before the International Chamber of Commerce Court of Arbitration in Paris in case number 26260/SPN/AB/CPB’.
Though the presidency did not confirm or deny that Buhari is among the prominent Nigerians that have testified in support of the country but however asserted that no one has been forced to do so.
‘While respecting the confidentiality of the proceeding, we wish to state categorically that President Bola Tinubu has not forced anyone to testify for or against Nigeria.
All the eminent Nigerians involved in Nigeria’s defence are doing so willingly and out of sheer patriotism and conviction.
