9-Year-Old Boy Accidentally Sets House On Fire In Kwara

The fire incident recorded at No 52, Mandate 2 Housing Estate, Ilorin, Kwara State ,on Thursday, was accidentally caused by a 9-year-old boy.
The unsupervised boy was playing with a match which is a tool for starting a fire and it accidentally caused a mattress fire that escalated.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the fire completely destroyed one of the bedrooms, the kitchen and the balcony of the building.
The state fire service confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Ilorin on Friday by the Principal Fire Officer and the Head of Media and Publicity, Mr Hassan Adekunle.
‘The Kwara State Fire Service responded to a fire outbreak on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at No. 52 Mandate Housing Estate, Ilorin, where a three-bedroom flat was nearly destroyed.
The fire was caused by a nine-year-old boy who was playing with a match that accidentally caused a mattress fire and it escalated’ he submitted while urging parents and guardians to educate their children on the dangers of playing with such an item, adding that they should ‘keep matches, lighters, and other flammable materials out of the reach of the children’.
‘We strongly urge the public to prioritise safety at all times, especially as children spend their holiday at home with limited supervision while many parents are at work. Parents and guardians are advised to be vigilant and monitor their children.
As the festive season approaches, we must emphasize the dangers of firecrackers, which are called bangers.
Parents must educate their children on the dangers of firecrackers and ensure they are used responsibly, if at all.
