Kwara Gov Discusses Fuel Scarcity With Security Council Members At Emergency Meeting…Sets Up Taskforce
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Thursday presided over an emergency security council meeting convened to design strategies to maintain law and order amid biting scarcity of fuel and new naira notes.
The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Rafiu Ajakaye in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com noted that the meeting was attended by the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi, some cabinet members, security commanders, and the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Kwara State Council of Chiefs, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.
The meeting urged calm while serious efforts are being made to address the scarcity of fuel and the challenges arising from the currency redesign after security commanders and cabinet members had presented field reports on the two issues and security situation in the state,
The Governor said the views expressed at the meeting will be presented at the Council of State meeting, which has been slated for Friday.
The Security Council also suggested the setting up of a state government task force to interface with the oil marketers and make things easy for the people of the state.
The council was also briefed about the deployment of some air assets of the Nigerian Air Force to the state to strengthen security and public peace.
The Governor has, in the meantime, approved the setting up of the Task Force, which is to be headed by the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi.
Other members are Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Ibrahim Akaje; Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Olaitan Buraimoh; Special Adviser on Security; Special Adviser on Special Duties; Senior Special Assistant on Security; Representative of the Emir of Ilorin and Chairman of the Council of Chiefs; Representatives of the Police, DSS, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp, and independent oil marketers.
The terms of reference of the committee include monitoring of fuel supply and effective distribution of same in the state, compliance of marketers with the best practices and in the best interest of the public, and prevention of abuse of any kind in cooperation with the fuel marketers-Team@orientactualmags.com
