Osun Central: PDP Accuses Senator Ajibola Basiru Of Promoting Political Violence
Osun state PDP has urged Senator Ajibola Bashiru, who is the Osun Central APC senate candidate, to caution his supporters against political violence alleging that these people were responsible for the political violence and attacks on innocent citizens in the senatorial district ,who , the party noted , had decided not to support his aspirations to retain his parliament seat .
The party in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by the Chairman, Caretaker Committee , Dr Akindele Adekunle noted that making this public had become necessary following the attack on innocent citizens at Ward 14, Oke baale community in Osogbo LG on 17th February, 2023 .
The statement added that this had resulted in many casualties with varying degrees of injuries and gunshot wounds.
Describing the incident as one attack too many by Senator Bashiru’s supporters, the party also alleged that the senator has continued to display high level of democratic intolerance necessary in the 21st century modern world by deploying his might against whoever dares to oppose him , insisting however that no amount of violence can save Senator Bashiru from an impending election loss.
‘We are tired of this incessant attacks on members of the public by Senator Bashiru’s supporters, election is not a do or die affair, seeking to represent the people against their wish is not only undemocratic but also a prelude to a state of anarchy. Senator Ajibola after exhausting the goodwill freely given to him by the people of Osun central 4 years ago cannot force his way into their heart again’ the statement said.
Osun state PDP also claimed that Senator Ajibola was made to know that his approval rating had become very low during his recent visit to Ward 4 Okebaale, Osogbo.
‘The people refused to welcome or allow him in their midst, as a Senator of the federal republic and a federal lawmaker, he should have respected the wish of the people instead of ordering his thugs to deal with them. The violence he ordered has left several people injured and these are the same people he had sworn to represent their interest’ the statement alleged.
The statement however warned that the silence of the ruling PDP doesn’t in anyway present them as cowards but rather people that have great respect for constituted authorities and the rule of law, warning that the PDP as a party had shown immense leadership by trusting the security agencies in respect of maintaining law and order during this electioneering period and urged that the PDP should not be pushed to fight back.
‘We have remained calm and we have continued to urge our people to remain peaceful, but the security agencies must ensure that no one is seen to be above the law.
They should ensure proper investigation, arrest and prosecution of hoodlums threatening the peaceful conduct of the forthcoming elections. We are law -abiding and we want to continue to show this no matter the level of provocation’ he concluded- Team@orientactualmags.com
