Illegal Firearms: Osun PDP, APC Engage In Accusations, Counteraccusations Ahead Of Assembly Election

Osun state APC and the state PDP on Sunday engaged in accusations and counteraccusations over allegations of making illegally- acquired firearms available to political thugs.

‘Worried by the proliferation of illegal arms and ammunitions in Osun state, the Osun state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is appealing to the National Security Adviser(NSA),  retired Major-General Babagana Monguno and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Usman Alkali Baba, to give an immediate and urgent attention to the demilitarization of the state.

It is disheartening, worrisome and scary that the whole state has become a garrison for the political hoodlums who are loyal to Governor Ademola Adeleke and his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  and who have  openly flaunted sophisticated arms and ammunitions in all the towns and villages in  the state’ Acting Chairman of the state APC , Sooko Tajudeen Lawal,  submitted in a statement issued  in Osogbo and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi on Sunday.

Lawal  also added that ‘these political thugs who have become willing instruments and tools of oppression, victimization, attacking, maiming and killing the opposition members since Adeleke became the governor on November 27, 2022, have turned the entire state into an abattoir for the slaughtering of human beings’.

The party also alleged that no fewer than 30  APC members  had since been killed by political thugs in the state.

‘I doubt if any credible, free and fair election can be held in Osun state under the present heavily militarized condition by the PDP thugs.

We enjoin you to use your good offices to handle the suggested withdrawal of the illegal arms and ammunitions from the PDP political thugs before the House of Assembly election this Saturday with dispatch.

What we are saying is that the electors should be allowed to vote for their preferred candidates without coercion’  Lawal submitted.

Osun state PDP   has also made counteraccusations raising the alarm about what  it called  ‘dangerous arms buildup by the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the House of Assembly election on Saturday’.

The party called on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Usman Alkali Baba, to urgently deploy resources to recover dangerous weapons from the thugs allegedly sponsored by the main opposition party in the state.

The PDP in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by  the state Caretaker Chairman, Dr Akindele Adekunle on Sunday, said the APC has become increasingly desperate following its woeful performance in the presidential and national assembly elections  held  on February 25, warning of a serious danger to the state and its people if the Police chief fails  to act in time.

‘As at the time of issuing this statement, APC thugs are parading the streets of Ife East and Central with guns and other dangerous weapons. There are credible reports that the arms buildup also affected entire Ijeshaland and others’ the statement said.

The PDP reminded  Baba Alkali of the devastating loss the party was  allegedly made to suffer  in the hands of the APC and its thugs ahead of the  presidential and national assembly elections held on February 25 , asking  him to prevent occurrence of such a thing.

‘Before the presidential and national assembly elections on February 25 , the APC went on violent spree and the PDP suffered hugely. In Ikire, Irewole local government, two PDP members were gunned down by the APC in their houses at the dead of the night, and in Ilesa, three PDP members were crudely murdered in broad-day light by the APC.

PDP members in Osogbo, Ife, Boripe and other parts of the state were casualties of the APC rascality and unreasonable campaign of violence. In spite of all these, the PDP did not retaliate and instead, trusting the law that justice will take its course.

Governor Adeleke has consistently warned against violence, which the PDP strictly adheres to. This is more reason why we are calling on the IGP to come to the rescue of Osun people and save it from the impending bloodletting that the APC is planning to carry out.

It is no longer secret that the APC is not acceptable to Osun state people anymore, hence, its resort to violence as captured in a leaked conversation on its plans for the March 11 election.

The IGP has a duty to protect Osun state people, and we implore him to do so without delay’  the statement added- Team@orientactualmags.com
