Fuel Scarcity: Osun Govt Threatens To Prosecute Petrol Hoarders

Osun state government on Tuesday warned owners of filling station in the state against diversion or hoarding of PMS (Petrol), noting that anyone found to have done this will face the wrath of the law.

 It will be recalled that long queues had been reported at petrol stations in the country since yesterday following the statement made by President Bola Tinubu in his inaugural speech that ‘fuel subsidy is gone’.

Governor Ademola Adeleke’s spokesman, Mr. Olawale Rasheed noted in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com that the existing Special Monitoring Team on fuel scarcity set up by the state government will swing into action immediately.

‘The attention of the Osun state Government has been drawn to the deliberate hoarding of PMS by fuel dealers in the state as a result of the statement from the Inaugural Speech of the new President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the removal of fuel subsidy, thereby causing unnecessary hardship for the people in the state.

This deliberate action is not only inhumane but unpatriotic and will not be allowed by the government. To this end, the Special Monitoring Team on fuel scarcity set up by His Excellency, Governor Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke which is headed by the Chief of Staff, Hon Kazeem Akinleye is still in existence and shall not condone any form of economic sabotage. 

As from today, 30th May 2023, the Committee shall begin special monitoring of all the filling stations across the state in collaboration with law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders. 

Any fuel station found to have engaged in hoarding of fuel to create artificial scarcity shall be sealed off while the owner would be charged with economic sabotage and prosecuted’ the statement said-Team@orientactualmags.com
