Osun Assembly Passes Bill To Okay Name Changes , Says This Was Done In Compliance With 2017 Court Ruling…‘Anthem’ Retained ‘Crest’, ‘State of Osun’ Gone

Osun state House of Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill that effected names changes in the state into law.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the bill in question though had the state Anthem retained but okayed name changes.
The ‘State of Osun’ and ‘State of Osun House of Assembly’ ,will henceforth be called ‘Osun State’ and ‘Osun State House of Assembly’ respectively while laws passed in connection with this between 2012 and 2022 were also repealed.
It will be recalled that Governor Ademola Adeleke had marked the start of his four-year term on Sunday, November 27 2022 by presenting himself as a revolutionary leader.

After being sworn in as sixth executive governor of Osun state, at the Osogbo City stadium, Adeleke had in his inaugural speech announced name changes and noted that Osun that had been called ‘State of Osun’ for more than one decade now, will henceforth be known as ‘Osun state’.
That was not all, it will also return to being called ‘State of the Living Spring’ rather than the ‘Land of Virtue’.
The state that had been known as ‘Osun state’ since its creation on August 27, 1991 , was given a new name during the Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola administration.
The state anthem was though also introduced by the Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola administration but it was apparently retained because of its contents.
‘Imole’ was the catchphrase used by Governor Adeleke during the gubernatorial campaigns last year.
Speaker Adewale Egbedun , who presided over the plenary session on Tuesday, had after leading members in singing the national anthem, read out the letter received from Hon. Adewumi Adeyemi Obokun state Constituency, for the presentation of two bills; Osun State Community and Social Responsibility Bill 2023 and Osun State Local Content Bill 2023.

‘It will conform to the constitution that christened the state, it will comply with the Judgment of the FHC dated 14th December 2017, it will revert the State crest to Nigeria’s Coat of Arm’ the Majority Leader ,Hon. Babajide Kofoworola, who expressed the need for speedy passage of the bill, had noted.
‘Understanding, however, that there may be some aspects of the law that are appropriate, the House agreed that all corrections made on Osun State Anthem, Crest and Flag Law 2012 should form part of the Bill for Osun State Anthem, Crest and Flag Bill 2023, sponsored by the Majority Leader.
In essence, what the House has done, is to vacate a law that had already been invalidated by a Court of competent jurisdiction, to pave way for a new law that will respect the letters and spirit of the Nigerian constitution that we swore to abide by’ the Speaker also submitted.
Hon. Kanmi Ajibola , Oriade State Constituency, a lawyer, also noted that the court ruling of December 14, 2017 , was actually a product of the lawsuit he had instituted.
The House had since adjourned until Monday, July 17, 2023-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us? Do you want us to cover your event or programme? Kindly send SMS to 08059100286, 09094171980. Thank you
