AIG Ishola Babaita Visits Kwara Command… Emphasizes Importance Of Professionalism In Policing…Talks About QIS, SPS Squads

Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 8 headquarters, Lokoja, Mr.  Babatunde Ishola Babaita , has emphasized importance of professionalism in policing while stating the need for cops to be professional at all times.

He added that the job of a policeman is to protect and to serve the public noting that this is characterized by service to others. Babaita has however noted that security is everyone’s business.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Babaita, who is on a 2- day visit to the Kwara state command ,  said this while addressing stakeholders, rank and file and officers at the Police officers mess, Ilorin on Wednesday.

‘Security is everyone’s business, and we must know that for us to secure anybody we must first of all secure ourselves, the way most of our men behave while on duty is not encouraging, remember that you have people that are looking up to you.

The Nigerian Constitution and other extant laws should be our guide in performing our lawful duty any duty discharged outside such shall amount to illegal duty which is contrary to the norms of the Police Force.

Incivility to the members of the public by Police Officers is on the high side, we should not forget that Policemen are servants to the general public; we are called to serve not to rule or oppress the public. The public are our employer, and we must be hundred percent answerable to them lawfully according to the constitution of the country that created the Police Force’ he said.

IGP Egbetokun has according to him  taken steps to  make  the Nigeria Police training curriculum  focus on attitudinal and behavioral changes for new recruits as well as reorientation programmes for serving officers in order to further make our officers get committed to concepts of human rights, rule of law, and citizen-focused policing.

The new training curriculum, he added, will be produced with inbuilt tests designed to weed out individuals with negative mentally and a high tendency for violence from amongst the recruits.

Babaita has  also urged the cops to attach importance to community policing.

‘The Police must be conscious of their immediate community in other words Community Policing should be encouraged  to successfully tackle crimes in our society.

Acting IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun’s  blue print should be adhered to strictly  in order  to take the force to the next level.

The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Egbetokun’s blueprint are as follows:-

Upholding the sanctity of our legal framework with a view to standardizing the policing profession viz-a-viz driving transformative agenda, embracing the principles of transparency, accountability, and professionalism, while upholding the rights and welfare of both our officers and the communities that we serve’ he submitted.

Babaita also talked about  the establishment of the Quick Intervention Squad and the  Schools Protection Squad (SPS) while giving  reasons for coming up with such an idea.

‘ The Nigeria Police Force  headed by the Acting Inspector-General of Police, in its quest to stamp out violent crimes and their detrimental and debilitating effects on the security of our society, will forge ahead to tackle the menace of crimes and  head- on with the establishment of a specialized Quick Intervention Squad which will comprise combat -ready Police Mobile Force personnel with effective and enhanced training in crisis de-escalation and violent crime reduction strategies. This will lead to a review of the engagement patterns of the Police Mobile Force in a bid to restore the days of glory of the Police Mobile Force as a punching arm of the Police.

Furthermore, the force shall embrace innovation and technology as powerful allies in our fight against crimes’ he said.

‘The safety of schools and educational institutions is of key concern to the police, which will continue to use all available human and material resources to mitigate the heightened danger students, staff and educational facilities/Institutions have been exposed to in the country in recent times.

In order to have a more focused and robust response to the existing challenge of constant attacks on educational institutions, culminating in abduction of students, the Police have marshaled out  an action plan and designed a couple of strategies (both kinetic and non-kinetic) to prevent and checkmate such incidents from being a recurrent challenge in our polity.

Consequently, the Nigeria Police Force, under IGP’s leadership has taken steps to prevent  such incidents  from being a recurrent challenge in our polity.

Consequently, the Nigeria Police Force, under Ag. IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun’s leadership  has set up a special squad called Schools Protection Squad (SPS) that will serve as an intervention unit to curb this menace.

The Squad is expected to commence operation in every part of the country. All hands must be on deck to be able to actualize the mindset of our Amiable Acting Inspector-General of Police Ag. IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun Ph. D, NPM. in order to achieve the Police of our dream’ he added.

Earlier while giving her speech, the state Police Commissioner,  Sebunoluwarotimi Adelesi had noted that  the state  has local and international boundaries, making it susceptible to both local and cross-border crimes.

She noted however that the working synergy between sister agencies in the state has been helpful in curtailing the influx of criminals into the state.

Among the crimes prevalent in the state are according to her  cultism, kidnapping, boundary disputes, communal conflicts, farmer-herder conflicts, and other common societal cases.

The command has  however confronted the menaces of cultism and kidnappings with uncommon vigor on her watch while noting that ‘the support of the people and the determination of ‘my men ‘ has made taming of these monsters less difficult to tackle’.

Adelesi added that the relationship between the state police command and strategic stakeholders, especially the PCRC, vigilante groups, Miyetti-Allah, Gan-Allah, local hunters, transport unions, labor unions, professional bodies, civil society organizations, and Android student bodies under the community policing initiative has yielded and ‘is still yielding positive results in our fight against crimes and criminality’.

He also thanked  the  Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq  administration  for the  successes recorded so far submitting that ‘our jobs’ were made easy through the provision of operational vehicles, funds, and moral support whenever the need arises.

AIG Ishola Babaita later visited Governor Abdulrazaq at the Government House, Ilorin-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us? Do you want us to cover your event or programme? Kindly send SMS to 08059100286, 09094171980. Thank you
