Mahmood Aliyu Accuses PRP National Chairman Of Disobeying Court Order, Calls Nigeria’s Intervention In Niger ‘Misplaced Priority’
PRP National Legal Adviser, Professor Mahmood Muhibeedeen Aliyu, has called Nigeria’s intervention in the Republic of Niger ‘a misplaced priority’ submitting that our leaders should rather prioritize how to tackle worsening security situation in the country and end safety fears.
In a coup detat carried out by military officers in the Republic of Niger on July 26, 2023, President Mohamed Bazoum was arrested and detained by the coup plotters led by the country’s new leader, General Abdourahamane Tchiani.
Leaders of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS , had ordered activation of standby force as part of the steps taken towards restoration of constitutional order in the country.
Taking questions from reporters including Team@orientactualmags.com during his visit to the secretariat of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, on Friday, Mahmood Aliyu said all attention should rather be on addressing ‘our challenges’ at least for now. He was accompanied by PRP leaders including Engineer Patrick Akindulu.
‘We’ve not been able to take care of our own security issues adequately. What wisdom do we have to wage war against our neighbour? Honestly from my mind, I’m completely against it. It’s morally, economically, and spiritually wrong.
If this question had been asked on the first day, what I would say is that that is not supposed to be our priority as a country. But if it’s ECOWAS, it’s ok. The matter has even taken political and ethnic dimensions.
Last week, bandits raided one village in Niger state and kidnapped some of the villagers. Four of my kinsmen were among the victims. And that threat is all over the place in question every now and then. Villages have been sacked and villagers sent away. In some villages, the villagers are asked to pay money to the bandits before they could allow them to work on their farms’ he said.
Professor Mahmood Aliyu also said provision of food items to Nigerians with the aim of reducing hardships concomitant with the removal of petrol subsidy ‘is insulting’.
‘ Provision of food items is not the answer to problems Nigerians are facing. Nigerians are being insulted by the mitigation measures. I don’t cherish provision of food items. Let the masses have access to good life. Government at all levels should create enabling environment for job creation to make citizens self- reliant. Having a job to do is the best form of support that government can give to the masses’ he submitted.
Aliyu , who asserted that he remains the National Legal Adviser of the People’s Redemption Party, PRP , accused the party’s National Chairman , Mallam Falalu Bello of disobeying court order.
He also talked about Bello’s emergence as PRP Chairman and the role played by late Alhaji Balarabe Musa.
‘As late ALH. Abdulkadir Balarabe Musa decided to handover the party (PRP) to Alh.Falalu Bello in 2019, I advised him against this, as we all know that Alhaji Flalu Bello as a capitalist and a member of the party should not have the leadership of the People Redemption Party (PRP) foisted on him, but late Alh. Balarabe Musa did not listen to wise counsel and single-handedly handed the party to Alhaji Falalu without any election by the party members.
He later invited me and nominated me as National legal Adviser and member of the NWC. He then (falalu Bello) went round to hand-pick his friends, school mates and a few others who were on monthly pay as members of his National Executive Committee. I realized that Alh. Falalu Bello was running the affairs of the party (PRP) as if it was part of his personal estate. He rebelled against Late Alh. Adulkadir Balarabe Musa, cut off communication with him and continued to run the affairs of the party alone in collaboration with a few of his loyalists.
For two years after taking over the party, he operated without a financial secretary and the treasurer was just in name as he was not allowed to perform his function this situation forced me to raise an objection at one of the NEC meetings.
Alh. Falalu Bello as National Chairman and Babatude Alli as national secretary were the only signatory to the bank account of the party and Alh. doubles as the treasurer. This continued for a long time. I raised objections on some issues that were unbecoming though I was a lone voice.
After two to three years of our inauguration in Kaduna and we were supposed to conduct a national convention but he was playing on our/my intelligence ( I presumed) by unnecessarily postponing the convention due to lack of funds. He always give an estimated cost of the convention to be between N200M and N300M which we all know the party cannot afford, this scare members (agitators) away from insisting on the issue and I had to issue a notice titled ‘A remainder’ (on all the PRP Whatsapp platforms) to all members stating the need to hold a National Convention . As a result of my write- up, he suspended me from the party as the National Legal Adviser and member of the National Executive Committee of the PRP. I appealed against the suspension as required by the PRP constitution. Falalu Bello refused to take my appeal. I thereafter approached the F.C.T high court of adjudication. A judgment was delivered in my favour voiding and annulling my suspension on 29th April 2022.
Alh. Falalu Bello- led National Executive committee disobeyed the court ruling by refusing to reinstate me as National Legal Adviser, I had to go back to court to file a contempt proceeding against Alh. Falalu Bello and Babatunde F. A Alli which is underway.
With the subsisting court judgment, I remain the substantive and recognized (in law) the National Legal Adviser of the Peoples Redemption Party’ he asserted-Team@orientactualmags.com
