Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola, has disclosed that ports in the country would soon be rehabilitated and modernized.
A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Wednesday noted that he said this shortly after concluding his interaction with heads of agencies and departments under his ministry.
Oyetola , who was inaugurated as minister last week Monday, had begun to receive briefings from the heads of agencies and departments under his ministry almost immediately.
So far, he has interacted with all the departmental heads and followed this up with the heads of agencies, beginning with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), National Inland WaterWays Authority (NIWA) and Nigeria Shippers’ Council.
He rounded off the briefings on Wednesday with the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron and the Council for Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN).
Oyetola has promised to look into some of the issues impeding their smooth operations with relevant agencies of the government while reiterating that there is a need for effective collaboration among agencies that have the Marine and Blue Economy as their parent Ministry in order to realize the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu administration for the sector.
Oyetola also noted that dredging of the nation’s ports will also continue so as to make them remain navigable, enhance their operations, and ensure improved revenue generation for the Federal Government.
