The need to meet deadline requirements and ensure ‘quality work’ was emphasized as companies bided for the 2020 FGN-UBEC SUBEB’s intervention projects in Ilorin, Kwara state on Wednesday.
The bid opening process which had begun with receipt of bids, gained momentum with the bid opening ceremony held at the KWASUBEB head office, Ilorin .
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that a total number of 215 companies bided for the contracts.

Kwara state Deputy Governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi, who represented Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq , congratulated the KWASUBEB for the successful completion of the 2014-2019 projects noting that this had been proudly commended by all and sundry, including the UBEC and other federal institutions in the nation’s education sector.

While noting that the current administration in the state has continued to promote inclusiveness, things can however according to him go round gradually, those who may not be considered after the completion of the bid opening process have therefore been urged to wait for the year 2021 edition which will come up soon.
He also noted that the state government will only accept high-quality jobs and reject anything that falls below the standard advertised or paid for while stating the need for them to patronize local artisans and suppliers.

The governor has also tasked KWASUBEB officials with ensuring quality supervision and monitoring of the projects.
‘ It is important to mention that we need to properly execute all outstanding projects and be certified good before new grants are accessed. We have only just implemented the ones we accessed for a period that falls between 2014 and 2019. This explains some of the outstanding that we have. The payment for 2020 matching grants shows our commitment to improving the quality of education in the state.
I am therefore assuring you all that this administration would continue to do everything humanly possible to bring back the memories of good time in our state.
Apart from improving educational infrastructure, what we are doing also comes with huge socioeconomic benefits for our state. I believe that these projects will not only improve the level of basic education in the state, it will also give job opportunities to artisans who will work at the project sites.
Contractors are implored to patronize local artisans and suppliers and deliver high-quality jobs.
I am asking KWSUBEB to, as always, initiate every measure to ensure quality supervision and monitoring of the projects. This is the only way we can guarantee value for money in the execution of the jobs’ the governor said
The Deputy Governor also noted that he did not consider it surprising that the KWASUBEB Chairman , Professor Shehu Raheem Adaramaja has done excellently well citing how he handled the fumigation of markets in the state sequel to the outbreak of Covid-19 without anything untoward getting recorded .
Giving his speech, Chairman , Kwara state Universal Basic Education Board (KWSUBEB) , Professor Sheu Raheem Adaramaja, who noted that the Covid-19 outbreak was responsible for the small number of projects made available for the year 2020, expressed hope that there will be an increase with regard to the projects for the year 2021, while expressing the need for contractors to deliver on time cognizant that ‘one of the requirements is that current jobs must have been taken to 50% level before we embark on new ones’.

He also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his visionary leadership while noting that the current administration in the state has continued to give attention to provision of a good working and enabling environment for teachers and pupils in the State of Harmony.
‘However, today’s bid opening ceremony is a continuation of the current administration’s priority in respect of the provision of infrastructural development and creation of job opportunities for our local contractors, this opening ceremony is not the first of its kind under His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahaman AbdulRazaq (CON) the Chairman of Nigeria Governors’ forum, who has always emphasized that education is the bedrock of any nation noting that to provide quality education, it is necessary to provide a good working and enabling environment for our teachers and pupils across the state.
These projects will not only improve the standard of Basic Education in the state, but it will also give donors the opportunity to complement the state government in providing educational infrastructures and other instructional materials.
Let me therefore commend the visionary leadership style of His Excellency ,the Executive Governor of Kwara state, Mall. Abdulrahaman Abdulrazaq for his commitment to continuing payment of State counterparts. Let me inform this gathering that the governor has also approved the payment of 2021 counterpart fund. This means that we shall soon call you for another round of tender process’ he said.
Professor Adaramaja also noted that the renewal of relationship with UBEC by the AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration in 2019 has attracted benefits including the establishment of UBEC Smart School , Adeta, construction of 3 bilingual Education Schools in Ballah, Share and Banni; and the supply of multi-Million-Naira instructional materials to complement the efforts of the state government.
Speaking earlier, Alhaji Lateef Sholagberu , who is the Director of Administration, KWASUBEB, had noted that the last bid opening ceremony was held one and a half year ago, while noting that due process has also been followed in respect of the current bidding process.

Chairman, Kwara state Indigenous Contractors, Alhaji Garba Alaya ,who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Alhaji AbdulKareem Akaje , commended the state government and KWSUBEB for ensuring a transparent process.
