The governor of Kebbi state, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris , the Kauran Gwandu, paid an unscheduled visit to the Government Girls Unity College , Birnin Kebbi ditto Nagari College, Birnin Kebbi on Monday.
A statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by Mr. Yahaya Sarki, who is the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, noted that he did this to assess situation in respect of resumption of staff and students after the public holiday and to also see things for himself with regard to the condition of the schools.
Idris expressed unhappiness over the poor turnout of staff and students at the Government Girls College, Birnin Kebbi after the public holiday.
He restated the determination of his administration to build additional structures in the school and renovate dilapidated ones to make learning more enabling for the students.
‘ Because of the importance that we attach to education, we have increased feeding allowance . We have also made sure that students have good learning environment. You know I am a teacher myself.
Honestly, we are not happy with what we saw, attendance is very poor. Nobody can explain to us exactly what is happening’ he lamented.
‘The Permanent Secretary should sit down with you and address the problem’ he also added.
The governor , the statement noted, also announced the donation of two million naira to staff and students at the school.
One of the teachers, Esther Olawale attributed the poor turnout of the students to parents who had failed to bring their wards back to school.
Governor idris was however elated with the turnout of students at Nagari College, Birnin Kebbi and he has commended both the students and teachers for their timely return to school while urging them to keep it up.
Gov. Idris also donated two cows,20 bags of rice and two million naira to the school.
Governor Idris, who also carried out a tour of inspection at the Sir Yahaya Memorial hospital, Birnin Kebbi, expressed worry over congestion at the hospital , and he has promised to look into possibility of moving some of the units at the hospital to the Kebbi Medical Center ,Kalgo .
The governor also said the issue of inadequate manpower facing the hospital would be addressed.
Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Abubakar Zaki expressed delight and thanked Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu for visiting the health facility.
