Ekiti: 28-Year-Old Man Accused Of Robbing Welder Remanded In Custody
A Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ado- Ekiti , Ekiti state on Friday ordered that 28-year-old Ojo Alofe ,who was arrested for robbery and attempted murder should be remanded in Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti.
Ojo Alofe was said to have at about 10 am on August 22, 2023, at Ijero Ekiti Magisterial District attacked a 68- year-old man, David Omoleye and took away his N190,000. He also attempted to kill him, the prosecutor has alleged , while noting that all these are punishable under Sections 312 and 241 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti state, 2021.
‘The defendant came to my shop and started threatening to kill me that day. He removed one of the big irons meant for work and started hitting me on the head, hands, legs and other parts of the body. When I became unconscious, some sympathizers took me to the General Hospital, Ijero Ekiti.
I later learned he went and brought a cutlass from his house which he used to destroy my welding machine and other equipment. When I regained consciousness, I discovered that the sum of N190, 000 and the handset in my pocket was missing’ David Omoleye ,a welder, had told the police.
Police prosecutor, Insp. Bankole Olasunkanmi, prayed the court to adjourn the matter to enable the Director of Public Prosecutions issue legal advice, having sent the original case file to his office.
The prosecutor also urged the court to grant the ex-parte application to have the defendant remanded in custody.
Magistrate Bunmi Bamidele, said, ‘I find reasonable cause to grant the prosecutor’s application to remand the defendant in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti for a period of 30 days pending issuance of legal advice by the DPP, Ekiti State Ministry of Justice, Ado Ekiti’.
