Why We Have Put Mass Burial For EndSARS Victims In Abeyance-Lagos Govt

The Lagos state Government on Monday gave reasons for taking a decision to put the planned mass burial for the EndSARS victims in abeyance.

103 bodies were reportedly recovered during  the October 2020 #EndSARS protests in Lagos state. On the night of October 20 , 2020, shots were reportedly fired  at unarmed protesters at the Lekki toll gate .

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that  the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Gbenga Omotoso, submitted on Monday that the planned mass burial has been suspended, following the controversies its announcement had generated since July.

Recall that in a leaked memo dated July 19, 2023, the state government had  stated readiness to hold a mass burial for the 103 corpses.

‘The planned mass burial remains suspended to give people ample time to identify their relatives that may be among the corpses’ Mr Gbenga Omotoso said on Monday.

‘It is to allow more time for identification as suggested when it was disclosed that the government was planning a mass burial for them.

Up till now, nobody has shown up to identify any of the corpses. But the government has decided to give people more time’ he also submitted while adding  that the planned mass burial would ‘be carried out soon’.

He also noted that ‘because of the controversies around it that time, it was suspended. People now have the time and ample opportunity to see if their relatives are there’ –Team@orientactualmags.com
