Court Ruling: You’ve Finally Succeeded In Pushing Me Out Of Senate-Elisha Abbo…You’re Only Looking For Scapegoats-Akpabio

An indigene of Adamawa state, Elisha Abbo, who is a prominent politician in the country, once again, made news on Monday.

Abbo, who had represented Adamawa North since  2019, has lost his membership of the senate.

Justice C.E. Nwosu-Iheme of  the Court of Appeal, Abuja, had in his ruling earlier in the day invalidated Abbo’s victory and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a  fresh Certificate of Return to Amos Yohanna, who was the Adamawa North PDP senate candidate in the  National Assembly elections held on February 25, 2023.

Though the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal had earlier affirmed Abbo’s victory, the Court of Appeal has however invalidated his victory citing failure to comply with the Electoral Act.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Abbo  has accused  the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio of playing a role in getting his victory invalidated despite belonging to the same party with the former Akwa Ibom state governor.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio

He further alleged that he has been punished because he did not support Akpabio during the last senate leadership elections while adding that four others including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC Abia North)  would also be made to lose election cases.

‘I heard it from a reliable source that myself and four other senators within the fold of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will be removed from the Senate through court rulings , all because of working against the emergence of Akpabio as President of the 10th Senate.

I won’t mention the names of all the four other ones targeted but the next in line is Senator Orji Uzor Kalu.

The court judgment is strange and the judiciary needs to please remain the last hope of the common man’ he said.

Akpabio in a statement issued by his media aide,  Eseme Eyiboh has however accused Abbo of looking for scapegoats submitting that he was not in any way involved in his election case.

‘It is unfortunate if he actually said that Akpabio was responsible for his removal. That’s the swan song of a man looking for scapegoats.

The Court of Appeal across the country decides cases based on the provisions of the Electoral Act and evidence advanced by petitioners. The Senate President has no reason to witch-hunt any of his colleagues’ he said.

In the meanwhile, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri  of Adamawa state has  described  the court ruling as the ultimate triumph of the will of the people of Adamawa North as expressed at the polling stations during the National Assembly elections held on February 25.

‘The  court ruling has further restored the confidence in the judiciary and the hope for the sustenance of democracy’ he stated.

Fintiri  commended the Appeal Court for its courage to uphold justice and reaffirm the saying that the ‘Judiciary is the last hope of the common man’.

‘The court remains the true arbiter that restores power to the people’ he added while expressing the need for politicians to seek power through proper channels and not subvert the inherent power of democracy.

Abbo had made news for the first time in July 2019 when he got haunted by the past.

A  viral video of an incident that was recorded on May 11, 2019 , had Abbo slapping a nursing mother, Osimibibra Warmate, repeatedly at a sex toy shop in Abuja.

In September 2020, the Federal High Court , Abuja, ordered him to pay N50 million to Osimibibra as compensation.

There has also been no love lost between Abbo and Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for about four years now.

‘I cannot be overwhelmed because I know how hard I fought to bring Governor Fintiri to power. Go and check the record, I am not boasting. I am the main man that fought to bring Fintiri to power.

My local government, Mubi North, is the second most populous in the state. The outgoing governor of Adamawa state is from Mubi North. I am the PDP there. Every PDP steward is from Mubi North, yet they couldn’t defeat me. I defeated all of them because I moved with the grassroots.

If anyone is saying he is more powerful than me, then, let 2023 come, we will meet them there. One thing about elections is that today, people are becoming wiser and wiser.

So, to answer you, the governor did not defeat me. The governor did not chase me out. I actually gave way so that I will go and take his seat from him’ Abbo had also told journalists after leaving PDP for APC in November 2020-Team@orientactualmags.com
