2 Feared Dead As Bus Transporting Inmates Crashes Into Motorcycles, Tricycles In Ilorin…Wrong-Way Driving, Ambush Attack Alleged

At least two people were feared dead following the road accident recorded in  the Oja Oba area of Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, on Thursday.

A bus transporting inmates to court had crashed into motorcycles and tricycles and this had reportedly left two people dead while some others were injured.

Sources told  Team@orientactualmags.com that  wrong-way driving caused the road accident while alleging that residents of Gegele, Oja-Oba areas had complained about this before the unfortunate incident that happened on Thursday.

The driver not only drove against traffic but also allegedly drove on high-speed and there was suddenly a break failure and he lost control of the vehicle. It was said that the early arrival of policemen saved the correctional officers from mob attack while no one among the inmates used the opportunity to escape.

Spokesman for the Nigerian Correctional Service, Kwara state command, Adegbulugbe Phillip Olumide, a Superintendent of Corrections, in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com on Thursday though confirmed the incident but however asserted that no casualty was recorded.

He also alleged a failed ambush attack while claiming that those who carried out this had planned to free AbdulAzeez Adegbola (Tani Olohun) .

‘Today, 19th of October, 2023, at about 09:14am, some hoodlums in a premeditated move at Ọja Oba roundabout boisterously made a tumultuous attempt to broke into the convoy of the custodial  vehicles conveying high profile inmates, which include, AbdulAzeez Adegbola (Tani Olohun) to the court. This resulted in a pandemonium which saw the Correctional vehicle damaged, shattered and battered.

These obviously led to injuries sustained by both Okada riders and some of the custodial personnel. Two of the custodial vehicles which managed to secure their passage was again waylaid and attacked at Niger road Junction. The personnel of the Correctional service were able to manoeuvre their way to the court.

However, those who sustained injuries have been moved to the hospital for medical attention and are responding to treatment. No life was lost so far.

The Nigerian Correctional Service appreciate sister agencies for the synergy demonstrated, we also assure the public of a harmonious relationship at all times. Thank you’ the statement said.

Spokesman for the Nigeria Police Force in the state, Mr. Okasanmi Ajayi, a Superintendent of Police,  has also confirmed the incident.

‘Yes, we are aware. We are on it and will give details as soon as we finish the investigation’ he said- Team@orientactualmags.com
