Two high school teachers have been arrested by the police and taken into custody in Zaria, Kaduna state following the death of a 19-year-old student ,Nuhu Sambo.
The deceased young adult was a student at Al-Azhar Academy, Kofar Gayan Zaria, Marwanu and he reportedly died while being punished for not attending class.
He was until his death a JSS 3 student at the school.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that spokesman for the Kaduna state police command, Mansir Hassan, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, who has confirmed the incident, also added that two suspects have been arrested.
‘The Commissioner of police in Kaduna state has already directed a thorough Investigation into the matter and we will prefer charges against the suspects immediately after Investigation’ he said.
Rukayya Sambo, who is the deceased student’s sister, said he was asked to repeat his class after failing promotional examination, but he refused to do this and stopped going to school.
‘He was then taken to the school by one of his uncles and handed him over to the school principal who vowed to punished him for absenteeism. It was after the uncle left the school that the teachers beat Marwanu seriously to the extent that they broke his teeth and later killed him.
According to his school mates, Nuhu was punished at the school assembly where his teeth were broken. He was later taken to the principal’s office where he was stripped naked and beaten until he could no longer breathe.
In fact, he attempted to run away but the school prefects were asked to apprehend him and he was taken to the principal’s office’ she alleged.
Isa Sa’idu, the deceased student’s uncle , also said the incident happened on Friday at about 9am but added that up till evening hours, the parents or relations of Nuhu were not informed.
‘We only heard rumour that our son was dead and had been taken to a nearby hospital so we rushed to confirm. We met the medical officer that attended to the boy and he told us that the student was a brought in dead patient’ he said.
‘The Management of Al Azhar academy school, Zaria condemns the sad incident that occurred in the school which led to the death of a student, Marwan Nuhu Sambo of JSS3 as a result of punishment for absenteeism.
The management is deeply saddened by this tragic incident that led to the death of our student and prays Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased student.
The officers that committed this act were suspended from the school forthwith and handed over to the Nigeria police for investigation and further action’ the school also submitted-Team@orientactualmags.com
