Chairman / CEO of Glister Success Ltd, Engineer (Chief) Bamidele Babatunde was on Friday honoured with the chieftaincy title of Mayegun of Inisha, Odo-Otin local government, Osun state.
His wife, Mrs. Christiana Babatunde, has also become Yeye Mayegun of Inisha land.
Engineer (Chief) Bamidele Babatunde , who is the Agbaakin of Igbeti and Babalaje of Ikoyi –Ile, is an indigene of Inisha, ditto his dutiful wife.
The Olunisha of Inishaland, Oba Joseph Oladunjoye Oyedele Fashikun ll, who presided over the installation ceremony at his palace, noted that the decision to honour the top businessman with the new title was in recognition of his contribution to the development and progress of the ancient town.
Dignitaries later took turns to speak well of the new Mayegun of Inishaland, all of them had good things to say about him especially his being altruistic and not ‘publicizing’ or allowing a third party to know when he offers assistance to people.
Pastor Bayo Dahunsi , who is the President of Inisha Descendants Union, attended the event and noted that honouring Chief Bamidele with a chieftaincy title will motivate the young people to emulate him.
‘He gives and empowers people without publicizing it . He is humble . I’m delighted to see that he’s being honoured today because such a good gesture by our king will encourage young Inisha indigenes to emulate him’ he said.
Olunisha of Inishaland, Oba Joseph Oladunjoye Oyedele Fashikun ll , who commended Chief Bamidele Babatunde for his altruistic acts, also noted that he considers him as his son, recalling that his late father was his classmate in 1948 adding that though he later left, they however again met at St Peters School.
Oba Joseph Oladunjoye Oyedele, who became Inisha monarch in 1978, also disclosed his famillial ties with the new Mayegun.
‘His mum hails from Olouode Sumokun. Compound the same household that my maternal grandmother hails from, so, this makes him my son. His paternal grandmother is my father’s relative. His maternal great-grandmother and her associates were in the same thrift association with my maternal grandmother at Sango’s compound. We’ve been together for a very long time. He’s my son, his wife his equally my wife. The mutual relationship between Olu-Awo’s compound and my family compound is another one entirely. Those being honoured with chieftaincy titles today are my relatives.
I’m very familiar with Olu-Awo’s compound because I spent a good time there. When I start schooling, I was staying with our teacher at Idi-Opele. That was where I knew Tunji Oyelade’s maternal grandmother. Chief (late) Tunji Oyelade. Myself, Tunji Oyelade and the father of the new Mayegun were together at Idi-Opele. It however took so long before I knew Tunji’s mother. It was his grandmother that I knew then because she treated me like his own son. The new chief is my son, in fact I’m the one honouring myself with chieftaincy title . Time will not permit me to describe who our new Mayegun is. He was honoured with the chieftaincy title of Agba-Akin in Igbeti ,a few years ago. The then Onigbeti was my friend. I’ve been there (in Igbeti) like three times and there’s this young man who’s an indigene of Igbeti. He died about one and a half year ago. We were friends and he was my colleague at Oyekunle district school, Okuku. It was through him that myself and the then Onigbeti became close friends. After his (Onigbeti’s) demise, his successor even became intimate friend with me. Onigbeti’s successor also happened to be my elder brother’s friend. He also married a lady from Okua.
Our new Mayegun has done some remarkable things in our town since preparations for this installation ceremony began. He is a good man and he is a responsible son.
They call him ‘adawa’ I don’t know how he got the nickname but he has done a lot for this town.
You will notice that the IDU chairman has been around since.
I pray that almighty God rewards the new chief abundantly for the good things he has done for this town. May you continue to record success in all that you do and this shall be the beginning of great things in your life’ he said.
‘He is a member of our church a prominent member of our church for that matter.
The church is elated it has brought honour to our church , we thank God for the privilege, he is a man of peace it is not surprising therefore that his title means promoting and preaching peace, he is a perfect fit for such a role’ Venerable Ojelade Williams , who is the Archdeacon of Inisha archdeaconry and Vicar of St Peters Anglican Church , Inisha, also submitted while one of the guests Engineer Dauda Aremu Awojobi, not only congratulated Chief Babatunde on receiving the new title but also asserted that honoring him with such a title was a good decision.
‘It is a well –deserved honour because this is a man that is actually serving God and humanity, he gives freely he works very hard and he doesn’t discriminate whether you are a Muslim or a Christian a Yoruba or any other tribe for that matter and his life has impacted positively on so many other lives .
He started as a banker but today he is very well into mining and he is doing very well and he is an employer of labour that is giving back to society and if you listen carefully to what the Olunisha said he acknowledged the fact that he has done a lot for this community and I believe that this chieftaincy title was in recognition of what he has done in Inisha and beyond, He has done a lot to help people even in Lagos where he is based.
If we have people like him in the private sector and there is an enabling environment for them to operate ,the country will benefit from such with regard to unemployment as it will be reduced drastically.
We need people like him he is creative, he is determined, he does not fear challenges, as it comes he is always prepared to weather the storm and we thank God that he has been recording successes.
His community has recognized him and I pray that God will continue to prosper him.
I am happy to be here , actually we have been friends for the past 15years now and the relationship has been excellent, it has also been mutually beneficial.
Today is a day to remember and I thank God that he invited me and I honoured his invitation’ Engineer Dauda Aremu Awojobi added.
