10th Usman Danfodiyo Annual Lecture: Muslims Urged To Seek Information About Other Regions To Promote Religious Harmony
The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Mohammed Saad Abubakar, has emphasized the need for Muslims in the country to seek information about other religions in order to promote religious harmony.
This, he noted, will also help to strengthen tolerance, mutual understanding, and mutual respect and ensure love among adherents of all regions.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the Sokoto monarch said this on Saturday during the 10th Annual Usman Danfodiyo Lecture which was held at the Banquet Hall, opposite Government House, Ilorin.
He has also urged Muslims to seek ‘knowledge about words of God and work with them in other to become better human beings’ .
Sultan Saad noted that the annual Usman Danfodiyo lecture is purposed to encourage Muslims to seek knowledge and share it to strengthen Islam.
‘Sokoto caliphate was founded on knowledge and not on illiteracy hence it is an obligation on all Muslims to seek knowledge, bequeath such to their children and spread the right knowledge about Islam to check the trend of fake news’ he added.
Taking the decision to hold the10th Annual Usman Danfodiyo lecture in Ilorin was according to him done deliberately to demonstrate that Muslims are ‘one big family’.
‘Why Ilorin, somebody may ask that question. It is because we are one family and it is important to share knowledge and educate people across the globe .
We are here to educate ourselves about what our forefathers did to strengthen Islam .They didn’t bring Islam to the world; they followed the words of God and strengthened it’ he noted.
The Sultan also described the keynote speaker ,Dr Zakir AbdulKarim Naik ,as an international scholar of repute and urged attendees of the event to share the knowledge acquired and work with the words of God.
‘It is one thing to hear the words of God, it’s another thing to work with it. I am asking us to work with the words of God so that we can become better human beings’ he said.
Naik, a Malaysia national, had ‘The Concept of God In Major World Religions’ as his keynote topic.
Shehu Usman ɗan Fodio , who was born on December 15 , 1754 , died on April 20 , 1817.

The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, representative of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Justice AbdulLateef Kamaldeen who is also the state grand Kadi , Secretary General of NSCIA, Prof Is- haq Oloyede, Professors Badmas Yusuf, Abubakar Aliagan, the Mutawali of Ilorin, Dr Alimi AbdulRazaq and the Zanna of Ilorin, Engineer Yusuf Sagaya were among dignitaries that attended the event.
The Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Mohammed Bashir Salihu later presided over the prayer session held to pray for Nigeria and ask God to prosper the nation and restore peace to the troubled parts of the country-Team@orientactualmags.com
