Edo Guber 2024: Ignore Rumours , I’m Still In The Race…My Relationship With Oshiomole ‘Excellent’- Osagie Ize-Iyamu
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has clarified that he is still in the 2024 Edo state governorship race while asserting that backing out of the race is never on the table.
Gubernatorial election is scheduled to hold in the state on September 21, 2024.
This is Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu’s third governorship bid and he had on two occasions gotten party nominations.
He was the PDP gubernatorial candidate in the 2016 guber election and the APC governorship candidate in 2020.
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, who has for the third time joined the guber race, has described media reports that the screening panel headed by Prof Julius Ihonvbere has stopped him and others from seeking the APC governorship nomination as ‘mere rumour’.
Recall that the said media reports had claimed that the screening committee had cleared only six aspirants and dropped 23 others while noting however that they are free to obtain the governorship nomination forms.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Ize-Iyamu , who spoke at the Benin Airport after being welcomed by supporters and some Edo state APC bigwigs, dismissed the said media reports and submitted that the APC National Working Committee has given clear directives that all guber aspirants are free to obtain nomination forms.
He also said his relationship with Senator Adams Oshiomhole is ‘excellent; calling him ‘a senior brother and the state APC leader’.
‘I want to assure you that I am in the race and by next week by the grace of God I will buy the expression of interest form. Any Edo person is worthy of the party nomination and I am not a stranger. I want to assure you that your support will not be in vain and there is nothing to worry about.
When you are contesting for an election, there are bound to be intrigues and all kinds of rumours and stories. The highest organ of our party issued a statement on the Edo governorship election and specifically said that all those who have aspiration to run for governorship should go and collect the forms.
And that they are the only one that can set up a screening committee which they will do at the appropriate time and if you look at the timetable released earlier you will find the schedule there.
I know there were rumours that some people have been excluded but by that NWC release such a thing is not possible anymore. The only people that can exclude aspirants are members of the committee set up by the NWC. I want to assure you that I will contest and win the election’ he said.
The APC guber aspirant also talked about his relationship with Senator Adams Oshiomhole who had at different times served as governor of Edo state and APC National Chairman.
‘My relationship with him is cordial. He is my senior brother and I respect age. We have worked together for many years.
