Angry Youths Protest Against Segilola Mining Company In Osun

Some young people in Iperindo and Odo Ijesa in Atakumosa East Local Government , Osun state lamented that the activities of SEGILOLA mining company  through its Segilola Gold Project  have  denied their people of their livelihoods and infringed on their right when they took  to the streets of the two towns on Monday.

They reportedly blocked the road leading to the company while chanting protest songs and carrying placards with different  messages and inscriptions condemning the unfair treatment of the residents by the mining company. 

The protesters alleged that activities of SEGILOLA mining company which engages in gold exploration and refinishing  have caused environmental degradation and health hazards in the two towns.

In separate interviews with Team@orientactualmags.com , a community leader,  Honourable Olaolu Ayodeji Ikotun and Adedire Adebiyi Samuel, the Head of Local Government Administration of  Atakumosa East Local government , said residents of the concerned communities have been discussing matters that are cause for concern with the management  team of the company without any positive  results  adding that mining activities in the area have been hazardous to their health while officials of the local government have also demanded payment of required taxes and levies.

Also speaking,  chairman of Atakumosa East local government, Honourable Adediran Adewunmi  alias  Akiika said letters have been sent to the company without any response  while listing the demands of the people of the local government to include payment of taxes and levies to Atakumosa local government and payment of compensation to indigenes of the affected communities. 

The representative of Odo Community, Mr Dimeji Ogundare said SEGILOLA mining company should be paying royalties to the people being  on the soil of Odo IJESA
