Zamfara Lawmakers Impeach Bilyaminu Moriki  As Speaker…Cite Worsening Insecurity

Members of the  Zamfara state House of Assembly on Friday   impeached Hon Bilyaminu Moriki as Speaker and appointed Bashar Gummi as  pro tem Speaker.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that this was sequel to the motion  moved by Hon Nasiru Abdulahi , who represents Maru state  Constituency, which was supported  by 18 out of the 24 members.

Moriki was impeached as  Speaker because his colleagues accused him of looking the other way and failing to take action despite worsening insecurity in the state.

 Bashar, the pro tem Speaker, had since been told to use his position to end banditry that has almost crippled socio-economic activities in the state.

One of the lawmakers, Hon Shamsudeen Basko, who represents Talata Mafara state  Constituency, noted that the issue of insecurity should  be given top priority as failure to do this had  led to the suspension of the former speaker.

‘I have two issues, but an observation was made on one, which is that of insecurity which has been disturbing our people. Our people are being killed and abducted on daily basis.

What are we doing in the assembly, we need to stand up and do something to defend our people. This is because the armed bandits are invading local government headquarters unchallenged. Let us call on the government to act now to protect our people’ he said- Team@orientactualmags.com
