Kwara: Stray Bullet Kills Vulcanizer As Correctional Officers Try To Keep Mentally Ill  Man In Check

A vulcanizer, Abdulahi Ayinla, has died after being hit by a stray bullet in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the incident was recorded in the Oke-kura area of the city on Friday .

It was gathered that  28-year-old Kazeem Adam , who had gone berserk , had  suddenly begun to vandalize tricycles, motorcycles while he also attacked people including correctional officers.

The incident was recorded  near  a custodial center belonging to the Nigerian Correctional Service in Oke-Kura  and the correctional officers had sought to put the situation  under control by pinning   Kazeem down and in the process a stray bullet hit Ayinla and he died.

‘He was attacking people  and vandalizing  shops  and pelting people with stones  ,a development that forced people to immediately close their shops, while others took to their heels for fear of being attacked by the chap’ a source said.

Spokesman for the State Command of the Correctional Centre, Adegbulugbe Philip   had since confirmed the incident.

He said: ‘One Kazeem Adam  ,28, of Ita Ogunbo  armed with knife and stone started smashing Keke NAPEP,  windscreens of vehicles  in our area at about 8am.The said man smashed and broke a Correctional Service  bus with registration no A240 7NC. .

In  an attempt to seize  him and put the situation  under control, ASC Ismail Kabir attached to Oke-Kura prison who was on guard along with others struggled rifle with him, during the process the suspect stabbed ASC Kabir on his head and as a result he sustained  head and hand injuries.

During the struggle ,his rifle accidentally discharged and as a result the bullet hit one Abdullahi Ayinla, a vulcaniser

Both victims are currently on admission at State General Hospital, Surulere and Balogun Hospital Ilorin, respectively and are responding to treatment.  A preliminary investigation  has begun’  he said.

It was also  gathered that Kazeem had since been taken to the ‘C’ Division,  of the Nigeria Police Force, Oja-Oba- Team@orientactualmags.com
