Ex-Gov Yahaya Bello Added To EFCC’s  Most Wanted Fugitives List

Ex-Gov Yahaya Bello Added To EFCC’s  Most Wanted Fugitives List

Immediate past governor of Kogi state, Alhaji Yahaya Bello  is now on EFCC’s most wanted list ,and security agencies had since launched a manhunt while the Nigerian Immigration Service  has  put him on its watchlist.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had declared Bello wanted in connection with alleged money laundering  which involved the sum of  N80.2 billion.

‘I am directed to inform you that the above-named person has been placed on the watchlist.

Suffice to mention that the subject is being prosecuted before the Federal High Court ,Abuja for conspiracy, breach of trust, and money laundering vide letter Ref; CR; 3000/EFCC/LS/EGCS.1/ TE/Vide/1/279 dated April 18, 2024.

If seen at any entry or exit point, he should be arrested and referred to the Director of Investigation or contact 08036226329/07039617304 for further action’ the NIS submitted  in a  circular   containing the name, nationality, and passport number of the former governor (B50083321)  which was dated April 18, 2024, and signed by Assistant Comptroller of Immigration, DS Umar, for the Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap.

Recall that Governor Usman Ododo  had  served as a shield and prevented the Economic and Financial Crimes , EFCC agents from arresting Alhaji Yahaya Bello , who is his immediate predecessor,    in Abuja on Wednesday.

Recall also that EFCC agents had arrived at  Bello’s residence on Benghazi street, Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, at about 9:30 am on Wednesday and while they must have planned to place  the former governor under arrest and subsequently take him to their office for questioning  , they however encountered stiff resistance from  some police officers and armed men dressed in black with the inscription ‘Special Forces’ .

Whilst this was going on, Ododo reportedly arrived at Bello’s residence at about 2:30 pm and his convoy later left at exactly 4:20 pm.

He allegedly used his convoy as means of escape for Bello as the EFCC agents that had laid siege to the residence since morning left 10 minutes later apparently after getting informed that their ‘target’ had escaped.

The EFCC had earlier on Thursday  declared Bello wanted, while asking members of the public with useful information about the former governor’s whereabouts to contact any of the commission’s offices across the country.

‘The public is hereby notified that Yahaya Adoza Bello (former Governor of Kogi state), whose photograph appears above is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in connection with alleged case of Money Laundering to the tune of N80,246,470,089.88

Bello, a 48-year-old Ebira man, is a native of Okenne Local Government , Kogi state’ the anti-graft agency submitted on Thursday-.
