Kwara NCS Controller Dies 19 Months Before Retirement

The Controller of the Nigerian Correctional Service, (NCS), Kwara state command, Mr. Adeyinka Adebayo Oyun, is dead. 

Correctional officers, family members and friends, spoke in sepulchral tones and had mournful facial expressions as  the news of  his death spread on Saturday.

The deceased NCS top official  had given no one signs of imminent departure from the planet earth,  there was actually no cause  for concern  as he was hale and hearty and  was even in his office until Friday evening.

Mr Adeyinka Adebayo Oyun, an indigene of Ipee, Oyun local government , Kwara state , had headed the Cross River state command before his redeployment to Kwara state command and he was expected to retire from the NCS in December 2025.

Late Adeyinka had left his office at about  6.00 p.m on Friday  and had also reportedly  visited a barbershop before driving home.

Some correctional  officers and other people had gotten appointments to see him on Saturday morning but this never happened as he reportedly died in his sleep.

After  members of his family  noticed that he was motionless on Saturday, he was taken to Olanrewaju Hospital , Sabo-Oke area of Ilorin from where he was referred to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, Ilorin.

Doctors at the hospital in question however declared him as a Brought in Dead patient and his body was consequently deposited at the morgue.

Spokesman for the state command, Adegbulugbe Philip Olumide, who announced Oyun’s death in a statement he issued in Ilorin and made available to Team@orientactualmags.com, noted that he died ‘suddenly’ in the early hours of Saturday. 

‘We regret to announce the sudden death of Controller Adeyinka Adebayo Oyun, who passed on to glory in the early hours of today, Saturday, May 25, 2024.

Until his demise he was the Controller of Correctional Service,  Kwara state Command. AA Oyun  was in the office until 6:pm  on Friday, May 24, 2024.

His sudden death is a colossal loss to the entire staff of the command. He was an active, dedicated, committed and a transparent leader.
