President Tinubu Hasn’t Hounded Political Enemies Or Interfered In ‘Electoral Process’ Since He Took Office –VP Shettima

Since becoming the nation’s leader in May last year, President Bola Tinubu has not hounded perceived political enemies or interfered in the electoral process, Vice President Kashim Shettima , has submitted.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Shettima said this while giving his speech during the event held to mark the 30th anniversary of Ghalib Chambers, a law firm that has its headquarters in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

Expanding on reasons why President Tinubu  has never influenced  electoral process, the Vice President  cited the president’s belief  in political freedom, fair play and justice.

‘President Tinubu has  never influenced electoral process and we (at the Presidency) never used instruments of office to harrass or hound perceived enemies’ he  said.

Shettima  also said adherence to the rule of law and quality of governance will help democracy to survive and  not necessarily the system of government.

Former governor of Lagos state, who is also a one-time Minister for Works, Mr  Babatunde Fashola, gave a keynote speech at the event and he  noted that the calls in some quarters for the reintroduction of parliamentary system of government might be wrong.

He advised those calling for the reintroduction of the regional system of government to ensure that this is properly thought out.

.

‘They should reflect on whether the reasons which caused its collapse in the First Republic have been sorted out or not’ he said.

He  also submitted that only quality governance can shape society and not the system of government.

‘Nigeria once practiced this parliamentary system, but it failed and led the country into unwarranted disaster.

Let us think deeply on why the parliamentary system failed us and ask ourselves if we have overcome those reasons’  Fashola added.

The former minister ,who commended the  founder of Ghalib Chambers, Professor Yusuf Olaolu Ali,  a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, for his robust contribution to the nation’s legal system, also  suggested liberal democracy that would change things for the better in the country and improve  the lives of Nigerians rather than calling for a change of  the system of government.

Professor  Yusuf Ali , in his remarks, thanked God for all he  has achieved, saying ‘my heart is full of gratitude, humility and deepest appreciation to Almighty Allah who is the Creator and the Divine Architect’.

‘As I reflect on the journey, I am reminded of the countless times Allah had  intervened, guided, and blessed me, even when all hope seemed lost’ he added.

Ali  also thanked his parents, teachers, clients and those who shared their wisdom and expertise with him, regardless of the situations  or circumstances, his siblings, children and his late wife.

Dignitaries at the event  include  the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the Emir of Ilorin,  His Eminence, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and the Founder of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Alhaji Abdulraheem Oladimeji.

Highlights of the event include  the launch of a compendium of over 450 pages by Vice President  Kashim Shettima which was compiled by the Ghalib Chambers as its contribution to the legal  profession –Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
