Ex-President Obasanjo Urges State Governors To Prioritize Food Security
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has emphasized the need for state governors in the country to prioritize food security and also come up with policies that will enhance people’s well-being.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that the former president said this in Sokoto on Wednesday during the unveiling of the 136 housing units that was bought by the Sokoto state Government for N1.8 billion which would be allocated to low-income earners in the state.
The former president was in Sokoto for a two-day visit during which he inaugurated the projects executed by the Governor Ahmed Aliyu administration.
It was part of the activities marking the first anniversary of the Ahmed Aliyu admnistration.
Obasanjo noted that food security should be a priority, followed by public health and security, adding that ‘good feeling enhances health and other productive engagements’.
He acknowledged the efforts of Aliyu, who he described as a ‘leader running a good race with regard to transportation, road construction, agriculture and housing projects’.
‘Your strong, energetic and resilient qualities in leadership have made you to get it all within the space of time of your one year. Putting all these in place will surely brighten your chances of seeking a mandate in the future without stress’ he added.
Giving his speech, Governor Aliyu said the idea of coming up with numerous housing projects is to fulfill his campaign promises to deliver human-oriented projects that would improve the welfare and standards of the people in the state.
He added that the state government has set up committees to complete and initiate similar projects across the state.
They include road constructions, youth and women empowerment, water supply and agricultural inputs for farmers as well as provision of equipment for hospitals.
‘We are determined to continue developing the state for proper repositioning and providing state-of-the-art facilities at all sites including Islamiyya schools, markets and playgrounds, among others’ he said.
Aliyu added that the houses were acquired from the Federal Government for the citizens of the state who will own them based on an owner-occupier basis in order to address the growing need for shelter in the state.
