LASTMA Launches Crackdown On Illegal Garages In Oyingbo, Ijora, Idumota..Impounds 40 Vehicles
The Lagos state Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has launched a crackdown on illegal garages in some parts of the state while 40 vehicles found at illegal garages have been impounded.
The agency noted that this was done to restore order and ensure smooth traffic flow while accusing owners of the illegal garages of causing road obstructions in Oyingbo, Ijora, and Idumota areas.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that LASTMA disclosed this on X.com on Friday.
The statement noted that LASTMA’s enforcement team led by Mr. Kayode Odunuga carried out the operation under the guidance of Governor Jide Sanwo-Olu’s Special Adviser on Transportation, Sola Giwa while adding that ‘the team specifically targeted illegal garages that had been causing persistent traffic jams and inconvenience for residents and commuters’.
‘Illegal garages have been a significant challenge in our quest to maintain a seamless traffic flow in Lagos. These impoundments send a strong message to all offenders that the state will not tolerate activities that disrupt public order and endanger the lives of our citizens.
Our goal is to create a safe and orderly environment for all road users and this action is a crucial step in that direction’ Giwa said.
The targeted areas, Oyingbo, Ijora, and Idumota, are known hotspots for traffic congestion due to unauthorized parking and the establishment of makeshift garages
Giwa submitted that the illegal garages and unauthorized parking have not only obstructed free movement of vehicles but also posed safety risks to the pedestrians-Team@orientactualmags.com Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
