Osun Popular Politician, Debo Badru, Dies In Abuja…He’ll Be Laid To Rest In Iwo Today
Alhaji Debo Khalid Badru, a popular politician in Osun state, is dead.
He died in Abuja on Tuesday.
Alhaji Badru was until his death on Tuesday, one of the influential politicians in Osun state and he also built bridges across the political divide.
An indigene of Iwo, the deceased politician, who was an Osun state APC big wig, would be remembered for keeping his word and promise. The deceased politician, a devout Muslim, is from a family that has produced Islamic scholars in Iwo land.
Alhaji Badru, who served as Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola’s Special Adviser on Political Affairs during his governorship, had been a friend of late Alhaji Isiaka Adeleke before they both ventured into politics.
Late Alhaji Isiaka Adeleke was the first civilian governor of Osun state and he also represented Osun West in the senate between 2007 and 2011 and from 2015 to 2017.
The late Badru had joined Isiaka Adeleke in defecting from PDP to APC ahead of the 2014 Osun state gubernatorial election and after the death of the former governor on April 23, 2017, and the subsequent decision to stop Governor Ademola Adeleke from getting the Osun West APC senate nomination which had made the Adeleke group leave the party for PDP, the late politician stayed put in APC .
Alhaji Badru had political friends and top dignitaries in the state gathered in Osogbo for the wedding of his daughter on June 15,2024 .
Family members ,friends, party members and others spoke in sepulchral tones and had mournful facial expressions as news of his death spread on Tuesday.
The last event he attended in Osun state was the fidau prayer held for the mother of the state APC chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, Alhaja Sinatu Awero Lawal I in Ile –Ife. last month.
Many had however felt that something was amiss when he was absent at the funeral of the mother of a prominent politician in the state, Prince Dotun Babayemi on August 3rd.
The Islamic funeral prayer (Salatul Janazah) would be held for him today, Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Amin Arabic Training Center Playing Ground, Odo Ori area, Iwo , at 4pm while his body will be interred at his residence in Oke-Ore, Iwo.
It has been an outpouring of grief since the news of his death spread, and it will definitely be a tearful farewell.
Governor Ademola Adeleke had since offered his condolences.
The governor in a statement made available to Team@orientactualmags.com by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed commiserated with the Badru family while describing the death of the late politician as ‘shocking’ and ‘sad’.
‘Governor Adeleke, who had earlier reached out to the daughter of the deceased politician, said he received the news with agonizing feeling, noting that ‘Debo Badru is a fine politician, an astute political player and a strong community leader’ the statement said.
Citing decades of political, social and personal relationships with Badru, the governor noted that his message of condolence ‘is from the entire Adeleke family and the government of Osun state’.
‘I commiserate with the illustrious Badru family of Iwoland, the political class in Osun state and the immediate family of Alhaji Debo Badru on this sad happening.
