FG Warns Against Subversive Activities, Urges Attorney Generals To Ensure Governors Comply With Supreme Court Ruling On LG Autonomy

FG Warns Against Subversive Activities, Urges Attorney Generals To Ensure Governors Comply With Supreme Court Ruling On LG Autonomy

The Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, (SAN), has warned that the Federal Government would not tolerate subversive activities in any shape or form.

Fagbemi  also noted  that the government will though promote and uphold the fundamental rights of all citizens, any infraction or breach of same rights by any person or organization under any guise except as stipulated by the Constitution would not however be tolerated.

The AGF added that  the Bola Tinubu administration has  a clear mandate of the people, and can only be changed at the end its tenure as prescribed by the Constitution.

Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Fagbemi said this on Thursday during the valedictory court session that was held  in honour of Justice  Olukayode Ariwoola.

The top jurist, who was  the Chief Justice of Nigeria, retired on August 22,2024, having attained the mandatory retirement age of 70 years.

Mr  Fagbemi also submitted that any other mode or attempt to change a democratically elected government except as provided by the constitution, is nothing but a clear case of treason and subversion of democratic governance.

The AGF noted that the laws of the land have made copious provisions on how to deal with treasonable acts, submitting that such people will face the full wrath of the law.

He reassured that the Federal Government is irrevocably committed to massively changing the course of narratives in the country’s justice sector.

The Justice Minister noted that cognizant of   the massive turnaround being put in place by the present administration, the justice sector would be given a place of pride it deserves.

The federal government will also according to him  eradicate all forms of obstacles militating against the modernization, effectiveness and efficiency of the justice sector.

He added that the recent 300 percent pay rise for judicial officers is one of the efforts of government to enhance and promote the Judiciary as the last hope of the common man.

He also thanked the Supreme Court for rescuing Local Governments in the country from the claws of the governors while urging  Attorney Generals of  the 36 states to advise their respective governors to obey the Supreme Court  judgment  on the financial autonomy for the Local Governments.

Also speaking,  Justice Olukayode Ariwoola emphasized the need to take measures that will help to reduce the backlog of cases at the Supreme Court.

Ariwoola disclosed that there are too many cases before the apex court which ought to have terminated at the appellate court noting that access to justice has contributed largely to the delay in the hearing of cases as litigants and lawyers are forced to wait for several years before decisions are taken on their cases.

The former CJN asserted that the right to fair hearing can only be guaranteed when lawyers and litigants do not have to wait for long before decisions are taken on their cases.

He also said there is a need for the bench to have more judicial officers to adjudicate on all matters expeditiously –Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
