CCTV Installation Now Mandatory At Business Premises, Violators Should Get Ready For 2-Year Sentence, N500, 000 Fine- Delta Govt

Delta state Government has told owners of commercial premises in the state that installation of Close Circuit Television Cameras is now mandatory while threatening to order the closure of business premises that do not comply with this directive.

 The state government noted that this initiative is aimed at enhancing security at public places, discouraging crime, and providing valuable evidence for investigations.

Secretary to the State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, in a statement he issued in Asaba on Tuesday, added that this directive is in line with the implementation of ‘an existing law requiring owners of public places and commercial premises to install smart surveillance cameras to support crime control efforts’.

‘Failure to comply with the law attracts a 2-year sentence, a fine of N500,000, and the closure of the affected premises until compliance is achieved’ he noted.

The statement added that the law, which became operative in July 2020, mandates owners of public places such as shopping malls, eateries, cinemas, and schools to install specified surveillance cameras noting that these include  camera specifications for outdoor and indoor use, including 4k resolution, night vision, and weather-proof features.
