Land Revoked By Wike Was Owned By Muhammadu Buhari Foundation Not Ex-President Buhari-Garba Shehu
Former President Muhammadu Buhari was never the owner of the parcel of land that was revoked by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in Abuja and there was no reason for anyone to have claimed that he lost ownership of any plot of land, his spokesman, Mr Garba Shehu, has clarified and asserted.
Recall that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, had earlier in the day invalidated the ownership of 762 plots of land in the highbrow Maitama district of Abuja, over non-payment of statutory fees.
According to the public notice issued by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), those who lost ownership of the plots of land had failed to pay the required money for their certificates of occupancy (C-of-O) .
Media reports had claimed that prominent Nigerians that lost their plots of land include former President Muhammadu Buhari; former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onnoghen; Speaker of the house of representatives, Abbas Tajudeen; Secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), Mr. George Akume, his wife, Regina; and Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State.
Team@orientactualmags.com learned that Garba Shehu however made a clarification in a statement he issued on Thursday evening that the plot of land in question never belonged to retired General Muhammadu Buhari.
The said parcel of land, he noted, was allocated to the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation, a non-profit organization set up by the former president’s associates.
‘The foundation had lawfully acquired the land with the support of well-meaning Nigerians but encountered bureaucratic hurdles when the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) presented an unusually high bill for the issuance of the certificate of occupancy’ Shehu submitted while noting that Buhari never showed interest in acquiring ‘personal’ land in Abuja during his tenure.
‘When he and his cabinet members were invited to apply for land in the FCT, he did not fill out the form that was given to him and he returned it saying that he already owns a plot of land and others without land should benefit instead.
Let those jumping up and down in the digital space get their facts right and stop dragging the name of the former president into baseless controversies’ he said.
Shehu also reaffirmed Buhari’s integrity and dedication to selflessness throughout his time in public service noting that the clarification is necessary in order to protect the former president’s reputation.
