Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has been commended for bridging digital divide in the State of Harmony while also empowering and giving hope to the vulnerable in society

Director General/CEO of the National  Information Technology  Development Agency (NITDA),Kashifu Inuwa  Abdulahi said this on Tuesday while giving the opening speech during the inauguration ceremony of an ICT Center donated to the Kwara State University of Education, Ilorin by the Renewed Hope Initiative, a foundation established by the nation’s First Lady, Mrs Remi Tinubu.

While noting that this will enhance ‘digital fluency and proficiency’ being a  center that is designed and equipped with state of art facilities to ‘give us a smart interactive and personalized learning experience as citizens’ , he added that it will also promote robust and sustainable economy which aligns  with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to elevating Nigeria to a prominent status in global digital economy  by harnessing the potentials of digital innovation to drive national prosperity and inclusivity.

Inuwa also submitted that to achieve this, the president directed relevant ministries to accelerate the diversification of the Nigerian economy by enhancing productivity in critical sectors including education.

The center will according to him help to empower women, the vulnerable,  the less privileged, and others in society while adding that  it is one of the initiatives designed under ‘digital literacy for all’ programme cognizant  that the greatest asset of Nigeria as a  nation  is not the mineral resources underneath but  human capital and ‘this is the only way we can deliver and sustain inclusive goals as a nation’.

He also disclosed that digital skills will be included in school curriculum in primary and secondary schools in the country and teachers have been trained in this respect while noting that digital skills has already been made part of general courses at the nation’s universities.

He said choosing Kwara State as the location for the ICT Community Center was not by accident given that the governor has continued to work towards bridging the digital divide in the state.

-Speaking at the inauguration of the ICT project, Mrs.  Tinubu hailed Governor AbdulRazaq and his wife for their dedication to the success of the ICT Centre which, she noted, would greatly benefit young people and the women.

‘I have been informed that these centres have greatly benefited our young people, especially women and girls, by providing invaluable opportunities for growth and empowerment. I am glad to hear about the success stories and the opportunities these centres afford members of these various communities that have benefitted from this intervention.

The knowledge of ICT serves as a significant tool to empower communities, especially women, to break traditional barriers and access new opportunities by equipping themselves with ICT skills.

So far, NITDA has constructed four (4) Community ICT Centres in total. This centre we are inaugurating today is the second, while Benue and Oyo centres are ready to be inaugurated soon.

Other Digital Economy Centres have also been fully equipped with computers and other ICT materials in five (5) States, namely Jigawa, Ebonyi, Cross River, Oyo, Niger, and the Federal Capital Territory.

Ten (10) additional Digital Economy Centres in Abia, Edo, Delta, Ondo, Kano, Katsina, Lagos, Nasarawa, Yobe, and Zamfara are also being fully equipped with ICT materials and will be ready for inauguration soon’ she said.

Giving his speech, Governor AbdulRazaq, appreciated President Tinubu and the First Lady for what he called an impactful initiative.

He said the ICT project is not just ‘an investment in infrastructure’ but ‘a powerful statement about the essential role of technology in our survival and progress in the digital era’-Team@orientactualmags.com  Do you have any information you wish to share with us?
