The LEAH Foundation, a non-governmental organization, has flagged off prostate cancer awareness campaign in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The event was held to commemorate the 2025 World Cancer Day.
LEAH Foundation has for years now worked towards having a society where the word ‘cancer’ loses its power by emphasizing that a diagnosis isn’t a death sentence, drawing attention to the fact that it is important to prevent cancer before it starts and putting stress on the need to ‘catch’ it early in order that people can live longer and healthier lives.
While it had before now focused on breast cancer and cervical cancer, the foundation has just branched out into ‘Prostate Cancer’.
Founder of the Foundation, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed disclosed on Tuesday that 20,000 indigent people will enjoy free cervical and prostate cancer screening while noting that grassroots communities where lack of awareness had somewhat promoted the disease would be given priority.

‘Cancer treatment is not too expensive when detected early’ she added while asserting that a diagnosis isn’t a death sentence as it is curable when detected early.
A urologist, who is a lecturer at the University of Ilorin, Professor Popoola Ademola, spoke on ‘Cancer Screening and Causes‘ and he emphasized the need for people to attach importance to their health by undergoing regular check-ups.
He also urged government at all levels to invest in more cancer treatment facilities to improve healthcare access in the country.
